Meet Sharon Diamond, the Executive Director of both JNF Atlantic and JNF Ottawa!

Sharon's journey is deeply rooted in her family's history and her unwavering commitment to the Jewish community. Sharon is the first-born child of immigrant parents. Her mother walked off the ship at Pier 21 with her parents and older sister. The last remaining of her father's family, his seven siblings lost in the Holocaust. Sharon's father immigrated to Canada after meeting her mother. Raised in Israel, he fought for freedom in 1967 and again in 1973. Throughout most of her adult life, Sharon has been an active member of her Jewish community, always asking, "What's next?" -What's next for the Ottawa community, and what's next for Israel? As a proud Canadian Jew, she sees it as her obligation to ensure our future generations have what past ones didn't - a homeland.

🦸 If she could have any superpower, it would be teleportation. Fuelled by her love for travel, she desires to eliminate the time it takes to reach destinations. For her, the journey is sometimes an integral part of the experience, but other times it's merely a means to an end.

🌿 Her favourite scent is eucalyptus. The fresh, bright aroma reminds her of sunshine and nature. Its healing properties uplift her spirits and make her feel better with every inhalation.

🍕 If JNF was a type of pizza... Sharon envisions JNF would be a fully loaded vegetarian pizza. Each ingredient brings unique textures and flavors, representing the diverse personalities within the organization. When combined on a seasoned crust with sauce and cheese, they create a perfect and harmonious combination.

Elan Isaacson, Head of Security for the Eshkol Regional Council, shares an update on how the current attacks are affecting the communities in this region. Thanks to shelters the residents are safe, but there is constant fear and destruction of property.

Please join us at Shaar Shalom Synagogue on Sunday, May 7th at 7 pm for a film screening and presentation by JNF National Education Emissary, Yifat Bear Miller, of the award-winning documentary film Sustainable Nation. The film follows three innovators who are taking valuable lessons learned from Israel’s water shortage to the rest of the world.

There will be a discussion, Q & A session, and light refreshments following the film presentation.

"Most will know by now that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced a temporary delay in advancing a judicial reform bill. It is an understatement to call this bill highly contentious as there have never been protests of this size and scope over legislation in Israel’s 75 years. This is unprecedented. The Prime Minister shared that his decision was driven by 'a real opportunity for real dialogue.' He reminded us that: 'We are not standing before enemies. We are standing before brothers.' This delay will last until the beginning of the Knesset’s summer session starting on April 30th."

Happy International Day of Forests! 🌳🌲 Today, we celebrate the vital role that forests play in sustaining life on our planet. This year's theme of Forests and Health reminds us of the many benefits that forests provide for our physical and mental well-being.

On this special day, we'd like to tell you the story of the Segev Forest in Israel. For over 70 years, the Segev Forest has provided the shade of trees, unique flowers and wildlife, walking and cycling trails, and incredible archaeological sites to the many communities of the Lower Galilee. But it’s old and damaged and in need of rehabilitation. It’s now time for us to provide care in return. The rejuvenation of this beloved forest will serve both people and wildlife now and for future generations.
