📖 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

St. John’s Lodge No. 2, A.F. & A.M.

The Worshipful Master, Officers, and Brethren of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 are pleased to announce the publication of:

Freemasonry in Halifax: The Story of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 – Volume I: The Early Builders (1780–1880)

This significant work traces the origins, development, and enduring legacy of St. John’s Lodge No. 2, one of the oldest Masonic Lodges in Canada.

Drawing upon archival records, early Lodge minutes, historical maps, biographies, and Masonic documents, the book explores the history of the Lodge from its constitution in Halifax in 1780 through its first century of existence.

The volume highlights notable figures connected to Halifax and Nova Scotia history, including Erasmus James Philipps, Edward Cornwallis, John Albro, Richard John Uniacke, Sir John Moore, Alexander Keith, William Alexander Henry, and many others whose contributions left a lasting mark on the province.

Prepared in anticipation of the Lodge’s upcoming 250th Anniversary in 2030, this publication preserves an important chapter of our Masonic heritage and serves as a tribute to the early builders whose vision and dedication helped establish one of Atlantic Canada’s enduring fraternal institutions.

A Memorable Evening in Bridgewater - June 2nd

Brethren of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 recently had the pleasure of travelling to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, to visit our brethren at Unity Lodge No. 4.

What made the evening even more special was that, unbeknownst to us when we began our journey, the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Nova Scotia was also conducting his Official Visit to the Lodge. It was a wonderful surprise and an excellent opportunity to witness the work and fellowship that continue to strengthen Freemasonry throughout our jurisdiction.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Worshipful Master, officers, and brethren of Unity Lodge No. 4 for their warm hospitality, generous welcome, and fraternal spirit. The long journey was truly worthwhile, and we greatly appreciated the opportunity to share in the evening’s proceedings and fellowship.

Visits such as these remind us that while we may meet in different lodges across Nova Scotia, we are united by the same principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.

June Stated Meeting – St. John's Lodge No. 2

St. John's Lodge No. 2 held its June Stated Meeting in an atmosphere of fellowship, learning, and Masonic accomplishment. The highlight of the evening was the conferral of the Second Degree of Freemasonry upon three worthy Entered Apprentices, who each took an important step forward in their Masonic journey. The ceremony was conducted with dignity and precision, reflecting the traditions and standards that have distinguished our Lodge for generations. The Brethren were also pleased to witness the presentation of a Past Master's Jewel, recognizing dedicated service and leadership rendered to the Lodge. Such presentations serve as a reminder of the commitment and stewardship of those who have guided St. John's Lodge No. 2 through the years.

We were honoured by the presence of visiting Brethren from Royal Standard Lodge No. 398 and Equity Lodge No. 106. Their attendance added greatly to the spirit of brotherhood that characterizes Freemasonry and further strengthened the bonds between our Lodges. Following the meeting, the Brethren enjoyed fellowship and conversation, continuing the traditions of friendship and mutual support that have been at the heart of St. John's Lodge No. 2 since its founding in 1780. We extend our congratulations to the newly passed Fellow Crafts and our sincere appreciation to all Brethren who contributed to the success of the evening.

Tonight at St. John’s Lodge No. 2, our May Stated Meeting was a quieter evening as we took a brief pause from conferring degrees. Still, the most meaningful part of the night was the bond shared among the Brethren.
