It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Caleigh Skylar Goyetche at age 27.

"Caleigh passed a few days ago after an illness. She was one of the most vibrant and caring people I ever met and very observant of the natural world, of how things work, and always saw he best in everyone she met. She always added fun and joy to every situation but could quietly support people too. We feel very fortunate to have known her and will carry on the work she began with her students in Cambodia." - Gwen Colman, GPI

Caleigh was an intern in the International Youth Internship Program administered by the Atlantic Council of International Cooperation, representing Canadian partner GPI Atlantic. Caleigh’s main role in her internship placement was to set up and teach an English as a Second Language (ESL) program for the Cambodian Indigenous Youth Alliance. This experience ignited a torch of meaning for Caleigh and she worked tirelessly, even teaching an extra zoom class on her own time, to serve the amazing youth she met in Cambodia.

One of her students, Sall Tymathe, said: “You are more than just a teacher to us. You are a true inspiration, always kind, patient, and dedicated. Your lessons have left a lasting impact, not just in our studies, but in our lives.”

To honour Caleigh, GPI will be hosting a virtual celebration of life tomorrow morning (Friday the 19th) on Zoom. If you would like to attend, reach out to Gwen Colman via email: [email protected].

GPI is working with the Cambodian Indigenous Youth Alliance in the creation of the Caleigh Goyetche Bursary to be awarded to a Cambodian indigenous youth for higher studies. Donations may be made by e-transfer to [email protected].
All donations will be used exclusively for the award.

This post is a space to share memories and photos of Caleigh, and to connect with others who loved her too. Feel free to share your stories and tributes in the comments.
