We had a full barn at Cape LaHave Adventures last night! We had the best time connecting through a shared appreciation for the LaHave Islands and enjoyed the many great conversations afterwards, thanks for coming out everyone!

Huge thanks to Melissa Labrador and family, and Cape LaHave Adventures for bringing this night to life with us.

It's encouraging to see a positive step for the North Atlantic right whale, a species that remains critically endangered and at high risk of extinction. Read CBC article: https://linktr.ee/cpawsns

Drop-in, grab a pen or send an email, and make your voice heard. We’re coming together at a critical time to speak up for land protection in Nova Scotia to share tools and write letters - no experience needed, just a passion for protecting nature that matters to you.

Why now? The Nova Scotia government failing to meet commitments in the Nature Agreement doesn’t just leave ecologically significant ecosystems vulnerable, it also risks renewed federal funding and further delays designation of pending protected areas that are ready and waiting. This is deeply concerning.

See you downstairs at the Wired Monk Coffee Bistro on Wednesday 1-4pm! You can also learn more and send a letter through this TAKE ACTION link: https://action.cpaws.org/page/189708/action/1

Each spring something special happens, on mild rainy nights thousands of amphibians emerge from hibernation and migrate to wetlands and vernal pools to breed! Taylor (CPAWS-NS) was out to observe the migration, and explains that some species, like yellow-spotted salamanders, often return to the same breeding pools each year. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to ensure those ecosystems remain intact.

Vernal pools are particularly important for multiple species as they only hold water for part of the year, providing a safe environment for eggs and young amphibians due to the lack of predators (like fish!). Amphibians need connected landscapes, healthy wetlands and vernal pools, and protection of important habitats. When amphibian populations are healthy, it’s an indication that ecosystems are too 💚
