RSL WA

RSL WA Enabling WA veterans and their families to thrive in the community. Your support can help WA veterans and their families to thrive.

RSLWA is one of Australia’s most renowned charities with established community groups and programs that enable veterans and their families to thrive. We provide experienced Advocates who help veterans lodge DVA compensation claims to access treatment and live fuller lives, employment services to guide their transition into meaningful work, and welfare support for those few experiencing hardship. W

e host regular commemorative events including ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day and engage the veteran community through 112 Sub-Branch locations around Western Australia. In 2023, RSLWA lodged 2,706 DVA compensation claims on behalf of veterans for injury and illness sustained during service. We delivered life-changing welfare support to 88 veterans and their families including financial aid of over $52,000. In 2023, we also partnered with Working Spirit to guide over 100 veterans into new employment, but every year roughly 6,500 veterans leave defence. 2 Delivering advocacy, employment, welfare, and other support services is an ongoing task that makes a massive difference to the well-being of our veterans. We encourage our community to interact with us on our social media platforms but ask that all interactions comply with our social media terms of use to keep this community safe for all. Happy WA Day from RSL WA.

Today we remember and honour those from our state who have served our nation, and the families who have stood beside them.

Their service and sacrifice are part of what makes Western Australia the place it is today.

Lest we forget.

On 29 May, we honour the service and sacrifice of United Nations peacekeepers around the world.

Since 1947, more than 65,000 Australians have served in peace operations. From the Netherlands East Indies, where four Australians became the world's first peacekeepers to deploy into the field on 14 September 1947, to present-day missions across four continents, our personnel have worked alongside international colleagues to protect vulnerable communities and support the transition from conflict to peace.

We acknowledge the dedication of the 44 Australian personnel currently deployed on UN operations, and remember all those who have served in 62 United Nations and multilateral peace and security missions over nearly eight decades.

We solemnly remember the 17 Australians who have lost their lives in the service of peace, and recognise the families whose support continues beyond service.

Today, we honour their commitment to duty and their contribution to a more secure world.

Lest we forget.

Thank you to all who attended the 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 π“π¨π πžππ‘πžπ« 𝐁𝐚π₯π₯ last night in collaboration with the Indian Ocean Defence & Security Conference (IODS). Through our combined efforts, we filled a room with 1,100 people and raised over $248,000 for WA veterans and their families!⁣
⁣
All funds are distributed evenly between RSL WA and Legacy WA. The proceeds enable RSL WA to expand core programs like RSL Active, Workforce Connect, and more. For Legacy WA, the investment will support development of their long-standing Busselton location where they conduct respite and camp programs for kids. ⁣
⁣
A special thank you to Defence West, AMDA Foundation Limited, and Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA for your support delivering this event. Together we united the Defence Industry, Government and ADF Officials towards a singular purpose – the wellbeing of WA veterans and their families. What an amazing result! ⁣

RSL WA acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet and gather, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community.

In line with RSL WA policy, we support the Acknowledgement of Country and Welcome to Country at commemorative services as an important mark of respect and recognition.

During National Reconciliation Week, we honour the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have served, and continue to serve, in the Australian Defence Force. Indigenous Australians have demonstrated courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to our nation throughout our military history, often serving in the face of inequality and exclusion.

We remember their service, reflect on our shared history, and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation built on truth, respect and understanding.

Lest We Forget.

More than 40,000 people took to the streets for this year's HBF Run for a Reason, and we were proud to have supported 67 veterans and their families as part of it! πŸƒ

For many of those families, participation in an event like this is about more than physical challenge. It is about connection, community, and the shared experience of moving forward together. The families of those who serve carry a quiet and enduring strength, one that deserves to be recognised just as much as the service itself.

We will also be hosting a series of 5km morning runs, in partnership with 13th Brigade, along the Swan River throughout the week of the IODS conference.

No registration is required, all you need to do is show up.

Our next Sundowner is just around the corner, on 29 May, and this one comes with a special addition!

Joining us on the evening will be Whipper Snapper Distillery, a proudly veteran-owned and operated business, founded and staffed by individuals who have served. Built on the same values that define military service, Whipper Snapper channels that commitment into the craft of fine whisky-making.

Their tasting table will be running from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, giving everyone the chance to sample their range and hear the story behind the brand.

Whipper Snapper also run a Veterans Club, an initiative established to support past and present members of the Australian Defence Force. It's a fitting partnership for an evening like this.

We look forward to seeing you there.
