Update on the last couple of months in Warburton.
Warburton CDP took part in a metal workshop hosted by Wilurarra and run by Rachel. The focus was to rebuild a stage at the studio to allow space for the young musicians of community to practice and perform. This project was great for developing different skills including welding and learning how to properly use tools such as angel grinders, drills etc. This will be an ongoing project and we are excited to see what else is to come for the rest of the year.
The ladies have been hard at work. They have been up in the kitchen making lots of yummy things to share with their families and the men working at the shed. Some of the favourite dishes from the past few weeks include spaghetti bolognese, apricot chicken, cookies and fresh pizzas, including homemade dough. Today we will be making a beef stew and fresh damper! While cooking, there is a focus on learning different knife skills, food hygiene & kitchen safety. Different cooking methods such as baking & braising and how they affect the produce. The ladies have also been working on their sewing skills recently. They have been working on making curtains for the community houses, altering clothes that don’t fit right and making blankets for people and as usual, lots of beautiful art is being created.
Not only have the men been involved in the welding workshop with Wilurarra they have also been busy at the CDP shed with fixing and maintaining their vehicles & tires being changed. The men have also been doing some creative pieces including beautiful paintings and different artefacts. We love seeing the men get creative and we are proud to be a part of it. The men had a day out on country, gathered some supplies to make artefacts, cooked kangaroo tails and spent time together. We would like to say a big thankyou to all the men and women of community who consistently work hard and join in on different activities.
