Join ride leader Di for the short but steep 8.5 km circuit around West Hobart on Friday 6 November.

Meet at 9.30 am out the front of 210 Collins Street to get to know your way around West Hobart on a bike. We'll take a short circuit around the best parts of WeHo, and return to Collins St to enjoy streetside coffee and dining.

There'll be a mixture of unsealed offroad paths, suburban short cuts and quiet back streets. Views, hills, pretty houses, and coffee.

New helmet testing from NSW has released its first results, which show their safest helmets are not necessarily the most expensive.

While all helmets in Australia have to meet an approved standard, the NSW scheme rates helmets that go over and above the minimum. The testers say the helmets which reach five stars will keep you noggin as protected as it can be.

The Friends of the Battery Point Walkway are calling on supporters to sign a petition to parliament to act to ensure the walkway gets built: https://haepetitions.parliament.tas.gov.au/haepet/Home/PetitionDetails/152

The petition needs a few more signatures to break the 1000 mark and closes on 12 November.

Illegal e-bikes and motorbikes on the Intercity Cycleway were the most common safety problem cited in a survey of path users, followed closely by anti-social harassment.

Survey respondents called for improved lighting, greater CCTV coverage, more police presence, a crackdown on illegal bikes, more exits off the path and improved side road crossings.

We're now talking to .police / Tasmania Police and / Glenorchy City Council and / City of Hobart about the results so stay tuned for more news.

The Thursday evening Tamar Bicycle Users Group (TBUG) free social rides are back - it's such a relaxing way to shake off the stresses of your week and explore ways to get around Launceston.

A new pump track at Midway Point has opened in time to ensure a fun-packed school holidays this year.

The track at Flyway Park was funded under the 2024 Local Government Association of Tasmania Open Spaces Grant Program and was finished last month.

It has three loops designed for different ages and abilities, so young and old riders can have a go.

City of Launceston Official / is closing the West Tamar Trail from 26 to 30 October to lay asphalt on the final section.

A detour will be signed via the gravel riverside path.

The council says this is the final stage of the trail upgrade and new seats and path marking will follow.

The Hobart Show is on Thursday-Saturday this week, which means you might want to access the Intercity Cycleway further down if you're going for a ride as the McVilly Drive entrance will be busy.

The official Show Magazine says there will be place to lock up your bike next to the disability parking if you want to stop for a visit.
