You may feel healthy if you have hepatitis B, but it can still damage your liver. Over time this can cause cirrhosis (severe scarring) on your liver and can lead to liver disease or liver cancer.

The only way to know if you have hepatitis B is by having a blood test.

Hepatitis B tests are not part of your routine blood tests, you need to ask for it from your GP.

TasCAHRD teamed up with AbbVie and Tasmanian Health Service to organise a Hepatitis C Educational Dinner for pharmacists, nurses and GPs in Burnie earlier this week.

We had sessions from Tina Evans - Clinical Nurse Consultant, and Dr Sam Maloney - Specialist Alcohol and Drug Practitioner followed by a panel discussion with Dr Sam, Tina, Jack Muir Wilson, Ben Wright and our very own Naomi Gilson.

Thank you for everyone who attended for coming together to work towards eliminating hepatitis C in Tasmania.

Only specially trained doctors (s100 prescribers) can prescribe HIV medications.

They complete extra training and are regularly monitored to ensure safe prescribing.

Note: This list is current at 20th February 2025 to the best of our knowledge. This list does not include all medical practitioners in specialist clinics who are also accredited to prescribe S100 medications.

People living with a blood born virus such as HIV and hepatitis are at greater risk of developing mental health conditions. This can include depression and anxiety as they adjust to their diagnosis and adapt to living with a chronic condition.

This impacts their quality of life can and be a barrier to accessing and continue care.

We were honoured to be part of “You Can’t Ask That!” panel discussion, exploring LGBTQIA+ health, sexual wellbeing and reproductive care organised by Tasmanian University Medical Students' Society (TUMSS) and PVOGS : Pre-Vocational Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society - WA
