⚓️YOUTH OVERNIGHT TRAINING SAIL UNDERWAY ⚓️
A windy start to the day was no match for our fantastic young tall shippers, who headed off this afternoon on their very first dedicated Youth Overnight Training Sail.

Under the experienced leadership of Master Brett E and Bosun Phil E, the crew are already getting stuck into the real business of sailing. They're plotting the ship's course, running watches, preparing for a night sail, developing their sail handling skills and putting their sailing competencies to the test.

It's hands-on, it's challenging, and judging by these photos, they're having an absolute blast while they're at it. 😍

This is exactly what youth sailing is all about: real responsibility, new friendships, building confidence, and the opportunity to experience life at sea as part of a working crew. Fair winds YCers!

⚓️Spoiler alert: slipping a ship is no small feat!

The recent slip of the STV Lady Nelson was a massive undertaking, made possible by an incredible team effort. Across the project, our volunteers contributed an outstanding 81 days of their time, supported by scaffolders, shipwrights, painters, riggers, engineers and the slipway crew.

A remarkable 28 members rolled up their sleeves to help, with a dedicated core group of both new and seasoned volunteers working every one of the 15 days she was out of the water.

From 50 litres of antifoul to fresh coats of white and buff paint, every task played a part in ensuring the Lady Nelson was returned to the water safely and is now proudly back at her home berth... and oh boy, does she ever look wonderful 🫶

To every volunteer and contractor involved: thank you. Your hard work, commitment and passion keep this historic vessel sailing. 👏
