Something special happened at Food Not Bombs Hobart this weekend.

What started as a simple clothes and supplies distribution became something much more welcoming thanks to the creativity and initiative of our volunteers. Together, they transformed donated clothing, toiletries, and essential supplies into a community space where people could browse with dignity, connect with others, and access what they needed.

The video captures more than tables and donations—it shows volunteers setting up, community members engaging, conversations happening, and people supporting one another.

Every item on these tables represents the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers, and a shared belief that everyone deserves access to essentials without barriers.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, sorted, transported, displayed, and distributed items. Community care happens when people come together, and this weekend was a wonderful example of that in action.

If you’d like to support future distributions through donations, volunteering, or partnerships, we’d love to hear from you.

🎤 Have a Story to Tell? A Song to Sing? A Voice to Share?

We’re excited to see a Hobart City Council music event creating space for people with lived experience, vulnerability, and unique life journeys to perform on a live stage in the heart of our city.

Many people in our community have incredible talent, creativity, and stories that deserve to be heard. If you’ve ever thought about performing but feel a little nervous, uncertain, or would simply like some support, let us know.

Food Not Bombs Hobart is happy to get behind you. We can help with encouragement, accompany you to check out the venue before the event, and be there on the day if having a familiar face around would make things easier.

Sometimes the hardest part is taking the first step. If you’d like a little support along the way, reach out. Otherwise, we’ll be around cheering everyone on and celebrating the courage it takes to share your gifts with the community.

🎶 Hobart is richer when everyone’s voice has a chance to be heard.

🔥 STREET FEED IS COMING 🔥

After a successful test run last Friday, we’re preparing for our first public Street Feed BBQ on the Domain.

A huge thanks to Pete, who has taken the lead, spreading the word through the streets, local shelters, community kitchens, and among campers on the Domain.

A big thank you to Sing Australia Kingston esp. Lynn, for their generous donation of bottles of orange juice to Food Not Bombs Hobart.

These donations help us provide refreshments alongside shared meals and strengthen the sense of community around the table. We are grateful for the support of local groups who help make our work possible.

Thank you for helping us share food, reduce waste, and build community. 🍊❤️

Pete called me into town today and said he had an idea.

What followed was about half an hour of driving around Hobart, visiting media outlets and community networks to promote our idea of a Street Feed BBQ for people experiencing homelessness on the Domain.

The response surprised us. There was genuine interest. ABC may even do a story, and Hot FM might give it a plug. It was encouraging to see people willing to listen and consider supporting the idea.

Later Pete admitted one of the reasons he called me was because he thought I looked a bit depressed and wanted to put a smile back on my face.

He won.

The photos show Pete outside some of the media stations we visited today. Sometimes community work isn’t just about the projects themselves—it’s about encouraging each other to keep going.

At the end of the day, Pete headed back to the van and started putting together a “Pete’s Pack”—food and essentials to hand out to people staying at the shelter. That’s where I saw him last, getting on with the practical work that makes a difference one person at a time.

That’s Pete. Always looking for ways to help, always looking for ways to lift others up.

What a fantastic afternoon at Food Not Bombs Hobart this Saturday!

A huge thank you to Danielle and The Bloom Project for co-hosting this week’s community gathering. Danielle brought incredible energy, compassion, and leadership, helping connect with so many people and creating a welcoming space where everyone felt they belonged.

Together we shared free food, clothing, essential supplies, conversation, laughter, and community. Events like this remind us that mutual aid is about more than meeting immediate needs—it’s about building relationships, sharing skills, and creating a community where everyone has something valuable to contribute.

This video, put together by Danielle, captures just some of the volunteers, conversations, food, clothing displays, and community spirit that made the day so special.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, shared a meal, stopped for a chat, or helped make the event happen. Community is something we build together.
