Stop the stress, fear and shame of free food halls. The food hall forms the basis of Chinese culture and society. Promote the free food hall!

More than one in three Tasmanian households struggled to put enough food on the table in the past year, Foodbank's Hunger Report 2026 found.

The report said 34% of households, or more than 84,000, faced food insecurity, up from 33% in 2025. Foodbank estimates more than 200,000 Tasmanians live in those homes.

"This isn't a small group of people somewhere at the margins," Foodbank Tasmania chief executive Cameron Johns said.

"These are people we work with, live next door to, see at school drop-off and stand beside at the supermarket. Or it's you."

Foodbank wants governments to set a national minimum standard for school breakfast programs by 2030. It sourced 2 million meals last financial year.

Government minister Roger Jaensch said the government was investing $7.1 million over four years to implement its new Food Resilience Strategy and support food relief programs and services.

🎨 Our Community Artist Banner Is Nearly There!

Look at the progress! 🌈

Over the past few stages, artist Lisa Rime has been bringing our community banner to life, and now the colours are all there, with our symbol standing out bright and clear.

There are still a few finishing touches to go. As Lisa explains:

“There are still bits to neaten, then once fully dry I’ll heat-set it with an iron and sew the pocket at the top”.

We’re getting close to the finish line!

Spare a Thought for Those Experiencing Homelessness in This Weather 🌧 🌂 ⛈️ ☔️

While many of us can escape the rain and cold by going indoors, so many people in our community are facing these harsh conditions without a safe place to shelter.
For those sleeping in tents, cars, or on the streets, this weather brings constant stress and uncertainty — trying to stay dry, keep warm, protect their bedding, clothing, and the few belongings they have.
Cold, wet conditions can quickly take a toll physically, mentally, and emotionally. Damp clothes and soaked blankets make it incredibly difficult to stay warm, rest properly, or avoid becoming unwell.
For people already living with illness or health conditions, the struggle becomes even harder, with many desperately trying to find shelter before their health worsens.
Homelessness is not just about lacking housing — it’s about surviving each day in conditions many of us could never imagine.
