Sprout Tasmania

Sprout Tasmania We are a not for profit organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering small Tasmanian food producers get their ideas off the ground and into market.

Sprout Tasmania is all about promoting great Tasmanian food and the state's small producers. We are a non-profit, volunteer run organisation with a big vision! We work hard to educate, support and empower small producers to get their ideas in the ground, growing and to market. To realise our goals, we run an annual education program called the Sprout Producer Program (SPP) as well as events which

foster connections, learning, knowledge sharing and positive outcomes for all in the Tasmanian food community. Sprout welcomes financial, in-kind and volunteer support from like minded individuals and organisations.

This week we have the honour of introducing flower farmers Laura and Alex of Curated Wild. This creative and curious couple have set their sights on Tasmania’s flourishing flower and agri-experience sector.

Alex, a gunsmith, bus driver and the farms chief engineer, is the builder behind the farm’s infrastructure, while Laura’s fascination with soil health and biodiversity led her from growing organic food to cultivating an incredible range of seasonal flowers. Together, they grow beautiful blooms in Montana, Meander Valley using no-till practices and a focus nurturing life in the soil and bringing joy to the community.

Beyond bouquets and flower buckets, Laura and Alex dream of creating a Pick Your Own flower farm where visitors can experience flowers in full bloom and connect more deeply with where they are grown.

We are incredibly fortunate to have so many wise and experienced farmers in our midst. 🌱🙏 Last week our Sprout Producer Program spent time with Greg from Goulds Medicinal Herb Farm, Aaron from Bowden Brothers Organics and James from Longley Organic Farm, the home of ActiveVista. We explored solar harvesting, rapid pruning and scale appropriate tools, plus much much more.

Creating opportunities for emerging growers to learn from years of trial, error and practice is THE learning model that Sprout has nurtured and embraced. Our program would not be what it is without our community. Thank you Greg, Aaron and James for sharing your knowledge so generously.

Please welcome Kristoff, Marcelle and their girls Lara and Milla from Huon Valley Lavender Farm to the Sprout Producer Program stage.

Huon Valley Lavender Farm began with a simple desire: to raise a family whose wellness was nourished by and connected to the land. For Kristoff and Marcelle, farming wasn’t just a career change — it was a return to something deeply familiar. Marcelle grew up on a Merino farm in South Africa, and today her parents, Peter and Suzanna, live and work alongside the family on their farm in Mountain River, sharing and nurturing three generations of farming knowledge.

Starting with a bare paddock, the family has slowly built a lavender farm based on regenerative principles, incorporating composting, mixed livestock cell grazing and a commitment to improving the ecology. Driven by a desire to use healthier, more natural products for their family, they set out to create chemical-free wellness products.

Their vision reaches beyond lavender alone. The farm has already been open to visitors and over time they hope to share workshops and learning experiences, helping others see that small-scale farming can be sustainable and deeply rewarding.

An update on Growing Good 2026.

We've made the decision to postpone Growing Good until Spring 2026, and we wanted to let you know directly.

With many of our farmers still deep in an extended season, and real pressures being felt across the sector, it didn't feel like the right moment to celebrate. November, when a new season of planting is underway and the community has room to breathe, feels like a much more fitting time to gather and celebrate Tasmania's incredible producers.

If you've already bought a ticket, you'll be hearing from us soon with details on your refund. Thank you for your support, it means everything to Sprout and to the people we work alongside.

Keep that sequined dress or pinstripe suit close. We'll see you in November!

Introducing the first of our 2026 Sprout Producer Program participants, Adam and Fiona from Tassie Grown, St Marys.🌱 Budding market gardeners, and perhaps poets, they wrote the most beautiful introduction to their farm, giving you the perfect insight into the beautiful humans they are and the adoration they have for the plot they now call home.💚 Here it is:

"On the eastern edge of Tasmania, where the hills of St Marys catch the first light, Adam and Fiona (Tassie Grown) are coaxing a small market garden into life, one rooted deeply in season, soil, and the quiet character of the place. Drawn to the region to farm at a human scale, Adam brings experience in horticulture and landscaping. They began with trays of herb and vegetable seedlings, learning the land’s rhythms and connecting with their community. From these seedlings, they are weaving themselves into the local food story, offering young plants to home gardeners who, like them, believe nourishment begins in the soil. Their work is deliberate and organic: composting, planting by season, and building fertility slowly, every seed teaching a lesson in patience and hope."

On Saturday 30th May, join us for Growing Good 2026, Sprout's flagship fundraising dinner. Come and be a part of something that truly matters.

Tickets available through this link
https://www.sprout.org.au/events/growing-good

Held from 6pm–10pm on Saturday 30 May 2026 at a special location at Procreate HQ located at 2 Collins St, Hobart (thanks to the generous support of Alanna and James Cuda), Growing Good brings together farmers, industry leaders and values-aligned people for an intimate evening of connection, conversation and support for Tasmania’s food future.

Guests will begin the evening with a welcome drink and canapés by the fire in the courtyard, under festoon lights and around fire pits, before moving inside for a shared long-table, three-course dinner celebrating the best of Tasmania’s autumn produce.

The menu will be led by Head Chef Vinny MacDonald, alongside Cam Perry of Hamlet, Scott Heffernan and a team of hospitality professionals.

We are thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker Tanya Massy, farmer and author from Ngarigo Country in south-east NSW, and current Investment Partnerships Manager at Sustainable Table, who will share her stories of working across rural, remote and urban communities, from farms to outback arts festivals, regional food hubs and government offices, all with one core focus - rethreading connection.

More than a fundraiser, Growing Good is about bringing the right people into the room — those who care about the long-term future of Tasmania’s food and farming systems — and building relationships that can make a real difference.

We hope to see you there!
