Today, we donated a large number of sheet sets and blankets to a group of people who were really feeling the cold now that that the winter nights are here. Here is some of what one of the residents wrote to us:

"I seen your comment on a post and looked at your profile and thought I'd not maybe have a chance at such a request. I thank you so very much and with no questions asked you beautiful people were straight on to it. Thank you for your kindness, understanding and care. You are an amazing organisation and many hearts are warmed just by your gifting such thoughtful items"

We hope that you all are able to snuggle in under those blankets.

Short of a Sheet does not receive many written thanks, but we do get lots of smiles, some hugs and even tears of happiness.

Due to some extremely generous donations of bedding over the last week, we are needing to put a halt on accepting any further donations of sheets, doonas, doona covers, pillow cases and blankets.

We will notify via Facebook when we are able to accept bedding donations ⏰

Thank you for your understanding and generosity 🩵

A huge THANK YOU to Amanda Steele, her wonderful team & the generosity of everyone who donated items to the Winter Appeal held at the Howrah Community Centre on Saturday.

We are very grateful for the non-perishable foods, blankets, doonas, hand knitted beanies & blankets, and clothing that we received.

Here is a photo of the bedding & clothing prior to it being sorted over the next few days. On the left is the bedding with many, many warm woollen blankets included. On the right, that tall mound is made up of fabulous jackets. Lots & lots of puffer jackets!!

We were able to give a doona, blanket, a men's puffer jacket & some non-perishable food to a gentleman who rang just 20 minutes after we collected these items.

We have a few bedding items that we cannot accept as a donation.

* King bedding of any type
* European pillows & pillow slips
* V-shaped pillows & pillow slips
* stained pillows, doonas & sheets

Some other items that we cannot pass along are:

* wine, champagne or beer glasses
* material napkins or placements
* hard placemats
* ice buckets
* vases
* delicate cups, saucers & side plates
* platters
* heavily scratched saucepans & frying pans

We don't give chipped, stained, frayed, torn or broken items to our clients, and taking them to the tip costs us between $17-$18 per full van load.

Short of a Sheet is not accepting any summer clothing at the moment, but welcome warm clothing during these colder months.

Short of a Sheet has had a change in their drop-off spot in Lenah Valley. We wish to thank Kasha, the owner of Tsunami Hair and Beauty who had allowed us to take some of her salon space to drop things off for a few months.

We now have a spot on the front verandah at 85 Pedder St New Town. There is a cabinet there to put small donations (no bigger than 2 supermarket shopping bags). No need to knock on the door as we will go by there regularly to check.

So, our drop offs are:
* ARTOSAURUS @ 71a Main St M***a (check for opening hours)
* Artgym @ 37 Barrack St Hobart (check for opening hours)
* 85 Pedder St New Town anytime

We have been a bit quiet on Facebook recently because we have just moved into a larger storage area for all the generous donated items from our Hobart community.

Short of a Sheet would like to thank everyone who has donated to us whether it be small items like deodorants and toothbrushes, all the way up to clothing, fridges, lounges, kitchen and electricals, beds, and more.

We appreciate all of your donations, and all the items go to people in Hobart who are currently homeless, or have been affected previously by homelessness or family violence and have accommodation now.

We are putting together 50 mid-year backpacks with the fabulous assistance of the Rotary Satellite Club of Sandy Bay, Battery Point. Their financial assistance and guidance is so very much appreciated by us, and we are in awe of their energy with helping others.

We would like to add home knitted adult size beanies, scarves and gloves (can be fingerless) to our backpacks to keep those without a home a bit warmer in the cold months ahead. If you can knit and donate to us we would love to take them.

We are not taking any sheets, pillow cases or doona covers at the moment, but clean doonas and pillows are always in need. Warm jackets and practical clothing for wearing out in our weather are also needed if you have any lurking in your cupboards.

We have a charity partnership with Recycle Rewards.

At Short of a Sheet, we use the money raised to purchase toiletries, non-perishables and clothing items that we give out to people in need.

At our face to face distribution evenings, we often have 10-12 people in need of a set of items including deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, underwear and socks. We are very lucky to have some of these donated to Short of a Sheet, but there are times when we need to purchase them to keep up with the demand.

If you are putting cans or bottles through at Recycle Rewards, please think about using the app, the barcode provided here, or look for Short of Sheet listed when you are there.

We greatly appreciate every donation to us 🩵🩵🩵

EDITED 🚐 Drivers and Lifters Needed 🚐

We are in need of a volunteer driver for our van which is in use six days per week. HOWEVER, we only need someone for 2-4 hours on two of those days.

You’ll need to be over 25 years old with an excellent driving record, be able to drive a medium sized van and comfortable to help move furniture and household items 💪

You’ll also need a current Working with Vulnerable People card. These are now free at Service Tas.

We’re seeing a fast growing demand, but with your help we can make a positive impact in the lives of many more households in need.

If you can’t assist us please spread the word! Even one or two new volunteers stepping in when they can, would make a huge difference 🩵
