Two years of justice not jails.

We are a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We are folks from all walks of life – teachers, nurses, students, doctors, community service workers, tradies, retirees, lawyers, people with lived experience with incarceration and more. We all care deeply about our community and how others are treated.

We are building a movement with a different vision for justice in the NT – one built on community, care and connection, not racism and institutional violence.

MLAs across the NT received a personally delivered JnJ petition from a constituent to say that they strongly oppose the closure of YiSSA.

The Finocchiaro Government presides over a homelessness crisis, makes it worse by evicting YiSSA residents and then questions people’s legitimacy when they seek homelessness services.

The NT rate of homelessness is 12 times the national average. Any government who doesn’t make public housing and affordable housing their priority is failing to deliver for our community.

The impacts of the Yissa evictions will be ongoing for years to come.

Those fleeing domestic violence will struggle to access services, and, coupled with the CLP’s changes to child removal laws, losing a safe place to live may also mean they are unable to reunite with their children.

This morning we gathered at the front of YiSSA to show our solidarity with residents who are being evicted from this essential crisis accommodation facility by the CLP. The CLP refused to pay a few million dollars to keep people connected to transport, services, jobs, and schools. It is putting people at greater risk of homelessness and harm. Shame on the CLP

A powerful demonstration on Wednesday outside the Australian Homelessness Conference. We will keep fighting against the relentless and racist attacks by this government. Stop the YiSSA evictions.

Join us for a peaceful gathering outside YiSSA on Sunday 11th October 8am. As a community, we need to continue to show solidarity with YiSSA residents and discuss how to provide ongoing support.
