We want to thank everyone who participated in and supported last week’s Week of Action. More than 50 people attended our legal services webinar on how to better meet the needs of SNAP clients; youth partnered with the City of Worcester on SNAP outreach throughout the city; and our faith community showed up in a powerful way—fasting, collecting prayers, and joining Thursday’s vigil in front of City Hall.
Special thanks to Rev. Payson, Mayor Joseph Petty, State Sen. Robyn Kennedy, State Rep. David LeBoeuf, a representative from Sen. Markey’s office, Rev. Talley, the Worcester Faith Alliance, United Way, El Buen Samaritano, a representative from UMass Memorial, and the many faith leaders, community partners, and residents who stood with our neighbors. We also appreciate Mayor Petty, Sen. Kennedy, and Rep. LeBoeuf’s commitment to ensuring DTA has sufficient staffing and resources to meet the needs of our communities.
Thank you as well to everyone who called members of Congress, our state delegation, and Gov. Healey to urge action and full funding for DTA.
At the request of our faith leaders, we will continue collecting prayers through September 13, when Congress returns. We will compile the prayers and share them with Gov. Healey, our state delegation, and members of Congress as a reminder that our communities are watching, praying, and calling on our leaders to protect access to food assistance.
