This week, we celebrate the doulas who walk beside families every step of the way.

World Doula Week is a reminder that continuous, culturally concordant support is not a luxury, it is what every birthing person deserves. In your language. In your corner. Before, through, and after.

This is what it means to be accompanied. This is the care that changes outcomes. We are here to close the gap between the birth someone has and the birth they deserve. 👩🏽‍🍼

This week, we celebrate the doulas who show up, before the first contraction, through every hour of labor, and long after baby comes home.

At Accompany Doula Care, we believe every birthing person deserves continuous, culturally concordant support. In your language. In your corner. Every step of the way.

The birth you deserve is possible. We’re here to help close the gap.

When Accompany Doula Care co-founders began meeting in 2017, the future looked very uncertain. Doula care was not yet reimbursed by Medicaid in Massachusetts, and the path towards that milestone was unknown. Nevertheless, the founders had a vision: to reduce barriers for families to receive doula care by partnering with healthcare organizations who shared a commitment to the birth experience that everyone deserved.

After two years of dreaming, building relationships, and learning about the nonprofit and healthcare landscape, Accompany received its first referral in April 2019.

Six years later, we have crossed over 1,000 referrals, our doulas supporting these families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. What started with a small group of open-minded doulas, our staff has expanded to include almost two dozen doulas who identify with a variety of cultures and speak more than 10 languages. Now, Accompany Doula Care remains committed to reducing barriers to doula care, while strengthening the doula workforce and making doula care a sustainable benefit to families.

This Giving Tuesday, many people and organizations are in need. Many organizations whose mission exists to serve the health and well-being of communities are challenged by an ever-changing funding landscape.

In these uncertain times, we ground ourselves in the vision of our co-founders. Our commitment to support every birthing family to have the birth that they deserve is stronger than ever and we are grateful today that you are a part of it.
