Mark your calendars: Today, October 20th, is Mashujaa Day in Kenya — Heroes' Day. It's a national holiday honoring the people who fought for Kenya's independence, and it's become a day for celebrating everyday heroes too.

We've got a few nominations of our own: the grandmothers raising grandkids on nothing. The teachers showing up early. The Team Oasis runners hitting mile 20 on a Saturday morning because a student needs a school. James, studying biochemistry because someone believed a scholarship was worth it.

Heroes don't always wear capes. Sometimes they wear running shoes, or a school uniform, or reading glasses at a teacher's desk.

Tag a hero in your life below. We'll start. 🙋

Way to go Team Oasis Naperville! Whether you're doing 5k, 10k, or the half, you're making a difference for students in Kenya. Each step is another textbook, a new pair of shoes, or a checkup with the doctor. We are so grateful for the impact you're making today.

Alright Team Oasis! It's Bank of America Chicago Marathon day! Welcome to the day you've prepared for, dreamed about, trained towards, and now started. You've got this.

When the miles get tough, remember there's a child in Kenya getting another year of education because of every step you take. Your race today matters. And they're all cheering for you.

2.5 weeks until the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Our Chicago runners have put in months of early mornings and long Saturdays. Race day, they'll have something most marathoners don't — an actual cheer squad on the course, holding Oasis signs at mile markers.

You don't need a bib number to be part of race day. Show up on the course, share their fundraising pages, or just send a message this week telling them you're proud of them. Training gets hard right about now — a little noise goes a long way.
