What would yes on I-001 mean? Learn more ➡️

Carefully crafted language passed by the 2025 Legislature would be eliminated. This includes changes made to protect parent and student rights while making sure Washington’s parent access laws are consistent with federal and state laws.

This initiative does not rise to the level of good law.

❌ It's not clear.
❌ It's not well considered.

This creates confusion and the potential for error.

It raises concerns that protected medical information could be disclosed in error and students facing violence, s*xual abuse, bullying, depression or other health challenges may be less likely to seek help from trusted school counselors.

There's been A LOT going on with elections, so what should Washingtonians know about returning their ballot in 2026?

✴️ Return your ballot by Nov. 3 ✴️

Use a ballot drop box if possible: You can deposit your ballot in any of the official ballot drop boxes located throughout the state. You may also return your ballot to any county election’s office. A complete list of drop box locations is included in your voters’ pamphlet or at VoteWA.gov.

If you need to mail your ballot: If you need to mail your ballot, do so before Oct. 27. Earlier is best. After Oct. 27, we recommend you hand it directly to a postal clerk and request a postmark at the counter.

Know a college student who is voting? Here's what WA state voters need to know! Pass along this info to someone who could use it.

Residential vs. mailing address:

Residential address is where you consider home. This address determines which candidates/measures are on your ballot. Mailing address is where your ballot is mailed to. As a college student, this is wherever you're located -- even abroad!

Registering in Washington as an out of state student:

Individuals can register to vote in WA state once they have lived here for 30 days and established a residential address. *Note that residency requirements for voting are not the same for in-state tuition.

Voting in two places is a FELONY. You are only able to vote *once.* In one county, in one state. Remember this when choosing whether to vote from your home or school address.

Thank you for voting! 🥳

All girls wanting to participate in sports would be required to get a statement signed by a health care provider verifying their biological s*x.

These signed statements would rely on the student’s reproductive anatomy, genetic makeup, or normal endogenously produced testosterone levels.

All of this to prevent a hypothetical scenario in which a trans girl, one of just a handful in Washington state, might someday pole vault higher, swim faster or win a race due to their status.

Could this happen? Perhaps. But, the odds are extremely low. Violating the personal privacy of an estimated 200,000 Washington girl athletes is not a solution.

At our core, nonpartisanship is not just a policy—it’s a bedrock principle that defines who we are at the League of Women Voters.

But nonpartisan never meant neutral. And it certainly never means silent.

Being partisan means taking a firm side tied to a political party — prioritizing one group's success and often resisting compromise because the goal is winning for the team.

Being political, in contrast, means engaging with civic life, public policy and the problems a community faces. It means showing up to public hearings, pushing for clean water or defending the right to vote — none of which requires choosing a party.

That's the League’s distinction: nonpartisan on candidates and parties, unapologetically political on issues.

Why does the LWVWA oppose I-638? Learn more ➡️ https://lwvwa.org/NO-on-I-638-and-I-001

League positions on equality of opportunity and good government support our opposition. Good government serves and protects its citizens with sound policy, equity, transparency and responsiveness to the needs of people. IL26-638 is inconsistent with long-standing League positions on DEI, equality of opportunity, good government and equity in public education.

What would "YES" on I-645 mean? Learn more ➡️ https://lwvwa.org/I-645

Repealing the Millionaires Tax would have significant consequences, including:

❌ Our unfair tax structure remains unchanged.
❌ The state budget faces an even larger shortfall.

I-645 keeps several tax changes without providing a way to pay for them. The changes made in the Millionaires Tax provide relief to struggling families and small business.

These changes include:

✅ Expanding the Working Families Tax Credit
✅ Creating a tax cut for small businesses
✅ Exempting grooming and hygiene products from sales tax
✅ Reducing sales tax on some services
✅ Providing additional funding for city/county public defense services

Keeping these tax changes without replacing the lost revenue is not responsible. Asking those who can afford to pay more to help fund tax relief for families and small businesses is reasonable.
