Women of the Cause

Women of the Cause Got good news about women doing great things, making history, or changing the world, then join us. And that's just what we did. Bingo. That's what we do.

The Connections Group was launched 19 years ago by political and communications strategist Cathy Allen, who started the business with one message in mind: let's level the playing field for the rest of us and put more people in office that look like us, act like us, and live like us. Breaking new records for winning women candidates, Campaign Connection tallied more than 200 winning efforts in its

first five years. Allen went on to author two books on winning campaigns — the latter now used as a standard text at many colleges, universities and campaign schools throughout the country. The Campaign Connection gave rise to a sister organization, Community Connections — using the same techniques in campaigns, only for public policy. Community Connections tallied hundreds of clients, from school district and city agencies to neighborhood groups and non-profit associations. The two together form The Connections Group, a full-service consultancy dedicated to helping our clients achieve success in communicating clear, concise and effective messages. Our strategy — whether in political challenges, private sector goals or agency projects — remains constant: You need the right message going to the right people at the right time, several times, in a variety of ways.

From Congress to Halls of State, in New Hampshire, Women Rule

Can you believe it! For the first time in American history, all the top officials from a state are women -- and it's not exactly the most progressive state in the world (New Hampshire). But these women are impressive and they officially replace my own Washington State which did have the most women (Governor, two US Senators, three Congressional members of 10, and our Supreme Court Chief Justice. Check out this link ... a great way to start the new year.

New Hampshire, which again chose a woman to be governor, will also become the first state in history have an all-female delegation in Washington.

Women on Company Boards Beat Boards with No Women

It pays to employ women, according to a new study by the Credit Suisse Research Institute. Companies that have women on their boards of directors have increased stock value of about 17 percent to 26 percent more than boards with no women.. Part of the reason may be because, companies that hire women tend to engage in less risky behavior and accumulate less debt.

Apparently sexism in the workplace doesn't only hurt careers. It also hurts bottom lines.

Recently I had the chance to train women to run for office in Libya – and voila! One of the fabulous women has just won a seat on the Benghazi Council. She’s a teacher, Madame Muftibey, as I called her – and her wonderful daughter Fatima Muftibey – whom I also trained with my colleague Megan Doherty from NDI—ran the successful campaign. See what a difference one woman can make as Madame Muftibey takes her rightful place at the table of Libya’s new democracy.
