Fire Resilience Series for Ranchers kicks off this Friday!
Higher temperatures, drought, drier soils and vegetation, and reduced snowpack across the Pacific Northwest are resulting in longer wildfire seasons and an increase in the size, frequency, and intensity of wildfires. Ranchers, as land stewards in arid regions, are uniquely vulnerable to wildfires. Wildfires occur naturally; nonetheless they can pose significant financial, human, and production-related risks for ranch operations.
American Farmland Trust has partnered with Farmer Campus and their award-winning Farming Through Wildfire Season curriculum to develop a series of learning circles for agricultural landowners in the Pacific Northwest.
Participants will learn how to identify and inventory individual risk factors, discuss mitigation strategies, plan for potential financial losses, and develop a disaster preparedness plan to build resilience to fire.
