Thank you to the volunteers from Union Lodge #43, Eastern Star Cascade Chapter #20, and Knights of Pythagoras for serving dinner to St. Martin's residents last Friday. The men enjoyed a delicious homemade meal of chili and cornbread.

Special thanks to George for generously providing Mariners tickets to shelter residents and staff. We look forward to next month's game!

We also extend our gratitude to regular volunteers Tom and Gerry for providing the evening's guitar music and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Thank you to the CCS Leadership Team for spending time with St. Martin's residents during a Day of Service last Thursday. Team members toured the shelter, listened to stories from current participants, distributed hygiene kits, and topped off the afternoon by serving ice cream sundaes.

Leadership Team members who participated included CCS President and CEO Jilma Meneses, Catholic Charities Foundation Executive Director Christina Stewart, and CCS Board of Trustees Chair Seattle Auxiliary Bishop Frank Schuster, along with Board of Trustees members Jim DeFranco, Brenda Fincher, and Tom Iberle.

St. Martin's residents were happy to see the Brothers of Hercules Lodge #17 who served dinner at the Shelter recently. This month's menu featured Sloppy Joes, salad, coleslaw, chips, soda, and water. As usual, Hercules Lodge #17 greeted our guests with humor, positivity, and kindness. We appreciate you!

All of us at St. Martin's appreciate and give special thanks to this evening's dedicated volunteers Jim Fowler and The Cul-De-Sac Group members for preparing and serving a delicious grilled barbecue chicken dinner along with a vegetarian ravioli option. The meal included homemade cole slaw, fresh corn on the cob, and ice cream bars. We thank The Better Meat Co. folks for their support of this wonderful dinner, too. Shelter participants were all smiles and truly appreciated these summertime treats!

Many thanks to representatives from Union Lodge #43, Cascade Chapter #20, Knights of Pythagoras, and Prince Hall Consistory #67 for serving a delicious dinner to the men staying at St. Martin de Porres Shelter this evening! The volunteers brought chow mein, fried rice, plantains, and desserts. The men really enjoyed tonight's special meal, especially the plantains!

Longtime St. Martin de Porres Shelter friend Helen Jolly passed away this past February. Helen was one of the founding members of our volunteer fundraising group, St. Martin’s Programs Advisory Resource Team (SMART). As a lifetime SMART member, Helen spent countless hours raising funds and providing support for St. Martin de Porres Shelter, Lazarus Center, and St. Martin’s on Westlake.

We appreciate how Helen would often drop by the Shelter to deliver donations of items the men needed. She was a great listener who always had time to chat with a resident or to ask how staff members were doing.

She along with our founding SMART members helped create and maintain a community at the Shelter where individuals are treated with dignity and acceptance. Helen's kindness, caring, and thoughtfulness will remain an inspiration to us. We will remember what she taught us as we carry on our ministry.
