A moment on the field lasts a few minutes. The confidence, inspiration, and belief it creates can last a lifetime.

We’re still celebrating our Seattle CARES Rising Scholars and the opportunities that remind young people: you belong in every room, every field, and every future you imagine.

What opportunities helped you believe in yourself when you were younger?

While we are anticipating the Spain vs. Argentina World Cup Match this coming Sunday, The Rising Scholars’ experience was more than what happened on the field.

Before stepping onto the field at Lumen Field as official FIFA flag bearers, our Rising scholars had the opportunity to participate in Coca-Cola’s Future Careers Academy modules, an experience designed to introduce them to the many careers that bring global sporting events to life.

From event planning and media production to marketing, creative design, and leadership, our scholars discovered that there are countless ways to make an impact beyond being an athlete.

At Seattle CARES Mentoring Movement, we believe exposure creates opportunity. When young people are introduced to new possibilities, they begin to see a future they can pursue with confidence.

Thank you to , , and for opening doors to experiences that expand what’s possible for our scholars. Together, we’re helping the next generation dream bigger, lead boldly, and build brighter futures.

Last week, we celebrated six incredible Rising scholars who stepped onto the field at FIFA World Cup as official flag bearers.

This week, we’re celebrating the character that brought them there.

These students weren’t chosen by chance. They earned the opportunity through leadership, dedication, and a commitment to serving their schools and communities. As part of the selection process, they submitted personal essays reflecting on their goals, leadership, and why they should be selected to represent Seattle on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Mai Lan shared her desire to represent her school and community with respect, responsibility, kindness, and good sportsmanship—hoping to make everyone who has supported her proud.

Aamira shared that being a FIFA World Cup™ flag bearer meant representing her school, her community, and young Black girls with pride. As a Garfield High School cheerleader, she strives to help others feel confident, included, and encouraged, leading by example with kindness, accountability, and a positive attitude.

Sbhat, who hopes to become both a lawyer and a pilot, described himself as accountable, responsible, and someone who gets things done when he sets his mind to it. He also shared that he sees himself as a leader in The Rising and called being selected as a FIFA flag bearer “an honor.”

At Seattle CARES Mentoring Movement, these are the qualities we work to cultivate every day: confidence, leadership, service, and a belief that every young person has the potential to thrive.

Congratulations again to Aamira, George (Lucas), Isaiah, Keita H-S., Mai Lan, and Sbhat. Your community is cheering you on!

Soccer fever took over Seattle on July 1 as FIFA World Cup action lit up Lumen Field.

In a thrilling Round of 32 match between Senegal vs Belgium, fans witnessed a major upset and an electric global football experience—one that will be remembered for years to come.

But one of the most powerful moments of the day wasn’t just on the scoreboard.

Six scholars from the Rising program, a signature initiative of Seattle CARES Mentoring Movement in partnership with the 4C Coalition, were selected as official FIFA flag bearers, stepping onto the pitch during pre-match ceremonies at Lumen Field.

Let’s celebrate these Rising scholars:

Aamira M. (Garfield High School)
George (Lucas) S. (Dimmitt Middle School)
Isaiah G. (Chief Sealth International High School)
Keita H-S. (Seattle Academy)
Mai Lan F. (Dimmitt Middle School)
Sbhat G-M. (Franklin High School)

Each student represented their school, their community, and their future with pride—carrying flags on one of the world’s biggest stages.

This is what opportunity, preparation, and belief in young people looks like.

Thank you and 🎉
