🏠When a family gets the keys to their new home, it should be a moment of relief and hope. But for many, that moment is followed by months of sleeping on the floor or eating meals without a table.

GiveBIG—Washington’s statewide day of giving hosted by 501 Commons—gives all of us a chance to change that. Your gift helps us deliver essential furniture directly to families who have no way to afford it or even transport it themselves.

A bed means rest. A table means gathering. A dresser means order. A furnished home means dignity. Help us make sure no family starts over in an empty space.

Whether you give a little or a lot, every donation creates BIG change. Early giving starts today, leading up to GiveBIG on May 5th!

What does it look like when young people choose community over comfort and sandpaper over sandy beaches?

It looks like a team of Rollins College students spending their spring break in Seattle through the Immersion: Citizens Take Action program, a transformative experience where students learn about social issues by working directly with local nonprofits.

Last month, we were honored to host this team of motivated students for a hands‑on restoration shift at the Repair Bank workshop, where they helped rescue and repair furniture that will soon furnish the homes of families starting fresh.

Their commitment to learning, service, and community embodies everything we believe in. Thank you, Rollins College, for showing what “citizens taking action” truly means!

This Earth Day, we’re rolling up our sleeves for a special restoration shift, and then celebrating our volunteers!

FRB’s mission is rooted in caring for the planet and our community. We’re the only org in the U.S. saving furniture from the landfill and getting it into the homes of people who need it most. When you volunteer, you’re part of a movement that keeps good furniture in circulation longer.

Volunteer with us on April 22:

Thank you to United Way of King County for their support of this event, and Happy Hauler for providing our shop with a ping pong table!

📆We’re shifting our open Monday Repair Days to Tuesdays, and it’s all thanks to you.
With growing volunteer participation and busy weekend collection events, Mondays have become our essential reset day. That’s when our team unloads newly collected items, assesses their condition, organizes the warehouse, and plans the week’s production flow.

By moving volunteer days to Tuesday, we can welcome you into a shop that’s fully prepped, safe, and ready for meaningful repair work. It’s a small change that will make your volunteer experience even better.

Visit the volunteer portal to sign up for your next shift: https://repairbank.galaxydigital.com/

Thanks for helping us grow and for making this community-powered mission possible! 💚

We’re excited to share an upcoming event for anyone who cares about repair, reuse, and real climate solutions.

On February 19, our Founder, Xenia, is joining the 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub to host a Lunch & Learn all about how repair can function as climate infrastructure: reducing waste, building skills, and strengthening community resilience.

We’ll talk about:

✨ Why furniture is one of the fastest‑growing waste streams
✨ How repair and reuse can dramatically cut emissions
✨ What it looks like to build community-powered climate solutions
✨ How you can be part of this growing movement

📅 Thursday, February 19
🕛 12:00–1:00 PM
📍 9Zero Climate Innovation Hub, Seattle

If you’re curious about climate action, circularity, or the power of repair, we’d love to see you there.

Let’s keep building a future where good furniture is providing comfort, not filling landfills.💚♻️

A refinished table, reupholstered couch, or refreshed dresser is more than a makeover. It’s a fresh start for a neighbor rebuilding their life.

These are just a few of the beautifully refinished pieces brought back to life by our incredible volunteers from the summer and fall of 2025. To see even more, visit the latest installment of Before & After photos on our newsletter: https://tinyurl.com/before-after2025

These photos capture the heart of what community repair can do. You might even spot a piece you donated… or one you helped restore during a volunteer event.

Every item you’ll see has already made its way into the home of a neighbor starting over; that’s the real transformation. Before & After isn’t just about the furniture. It’s about the dignity, stability, and belonging that each restored piece brings into a new home.

Take a look, celebrate the craft, and feel the impact your support makes every day!

2025 was a breakthrough year for Furniture Repair Bank, one defined by big wins, bold growth, and the kind of community support that reminds us why this work matters. From launching our first-ever fundraising campaign to expanding into a workshop 2.5x larger, this year stretched us in all the right ways. And with every milestone came lessons that are shaping our path forward.

We just published a new story highlighting our 4 Big Wins & 3 Lessons Learned: a look behind the scenes at what it really took to grow, adapt, and strengthen our mission this year.

If you want a behind-the-scenes on how community repair is scaling in Seattle, this is a great place to start!

It's been an amazing four years since our founder Xenia picked up the first piece of furniture to fuel the start of Furniture Repair Bank.

For those first two years, we operated out of a rented storage unit. Now, four growth-filled years and two workshops later, there is so much to reflect on. Here is a snapshot of how the Repair Bank grew into what we are today:

📅 2022 - Testing the Concept:
🛠️ Held the first furniture repair event at the Tacoma Dome, followed by events at the BARN in Kitsap and Food Lifeline in Seattle
🛋️ Donated the first sets of furniture through our first partner, Lutheran Community Services Northwest

📅 2023 - Prototyping:
🗝️ Secured our first home in S**o, Seattle, on Occidental Ave
☕ Tested our first corporate team event with Atomo Coffee
🤝 Hired our second employee and officially became a “team”!

📅 2024 - Piloting:
🙌 Finished the year as a team of six in different capacities
⬆️ Significantly grew our corporate & individual volunteer ranks
💻 Piloted and incrementally improved basic operations

📅 2025 - Scaling:
💌 Branched out as an independent 501c3 organization
👏 Grew to a team of eleven, all serving critical roles
🚚 Moved into a larger workshop & purchased our own truck!
🎉 Increased our overall impacts by 79%!

Now that we've closed out 2025, we’re reflecting on another incredible year filled with progress, community support, and exciting milestones. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible impact we made this year, thanks to the support of our amazing community and selfless volunteers!

We’re still feeling energized and grateful after being part of The Good Gathering at the Columbia Tower Club this past Wednesday, hosted by the Corporate Giving Network.

A heartfelt thank‑you to the Corporate Giving Network team for creating a space where nonprofits, corporate & agency partners, volunteers, and new supporters could come together to share ideas, build relationships, and celebrate the power of collective impact. It was an honor to represent Furniture Repair Bank and to connect with so many people who care deeply about strengthening our region.

Events like this remind us that repair, whether of furniture, of systems, of opportunity, happens best when we do it together. We’re excited for the conversations sparked, the partnerships forming, and the possibilities ahead. It was an honor to be included with our fellow nonprofits who are supporting our communities in so many ways: Therapy Fund Foundation, Bellevue College Foundation, Work Opportunities

Thank you for including us in such a thoughtful and inspiring gathering. We’re proud to be part of this community of changemakers!
