On Monday, June 19th we celebrate Black freedom and liberation in honor of Juneteenth, the day the last enslaved Africans in Texas learned that they were free two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed into law. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we also reflect on the importance of learning about and grappling with the truth of our history and recognize how much work we still have to do.

Visit https://linktr.ee/cisseattle to learn more about the legacy of Juneteenth, local events and celebrations in the Seattle area throughout the weekend and different actions you can take to support Black freedom and liberation.

While we reflect on the history of Pride and celebrate the progress that has been made this month, we must also commit to showing up for our q***r and trans students, families, colleagues and community members as hateful rhetoric, discriminatory policies and violence continue to impact q***r and trans people in this country and across the globe.

Check out the resources at https://linktr.ee/cisseattle to learn more about the history of Pride and different actions you can take to support q***r and trans communities this month and beyond.

To our LGBTQ+ community - we see you, we love you and the world is better with you in it 💜🌈🏳️‍⚧️

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Mental health matters, and like physical health, our mental health is shaped by so much more than individual brain chemistry or genetics.

Systemic factors such as access to stable housing, jobs that pay a living wage, nutritious and culturally relevant food, affordable medical care, neighborhoods that are free from environment toxins and violence and strong community connections that create a sense of belonging all play a part in our overall mental health.

As we work to support our youth, friends, family and community members who may be navigating mental health challenges, it's important that we consider individuals within the context of their larger environment.

Explore https://linktr.ee/cisseattle for more information and local mental health resources.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time for us to intentionally celebrate and uplift the rich histories, cultures and contributions of the AAPI community while also calling attention to the ways in which folks across the AAPI diaspora continue to face discrimination and xenophobic harassment in our communities. To learn more about how to respectfully celebrate and stand in solidarity with AAPI communities this month and beyond, check out the links below.
