After the regular Redding Evening session on August 6th, 2026, the officers of Club 197 met to take care of administrative tasks and to discuss our objectives in the year ahead.

At the start of every meeting, before we get to the speech portion, every club member is encouraged to practice introducing themselves and to say a few words about their day or their week.

It's just a few seconds of an introduction that, through months of practice, builds growing confidence and poise. And we clap for you every time, as part of our own practice as listeners, to respond with dignity and class! Everyone loves this opening part of the evening.

I am currently the VP of Public Relations for the club, and my wife and I are both members and consider this a type of date night :)

We are so grateful for the real community and mutual respect we feel. Every meeting is full of laughter and sober respect as we share stories in the guise of practicing public speaking.

Good cheer and good times had by all! And speeches and toasts were made, of course.

With members and friends of the local Toastmasters Club 197, we turned our normal meeting time on May 21st, 2026 into a special celebration of 85 years of existence in the city of Redding, California.

We all felt an immense gratitude for all those members before our time who made it possible for us today to be part of such a warm, caring, and productive community of aspiring speakers.

Our club members elected new officers during the month of June for the club cycle of 2026 to 2027.

We are all enthusiastic about buckling down in this new year as a group, so we can climb even higher in the rankings of club accomplishments.

Our local Toastmasters club is going strong after 85 years of continuous operation!

Founded in Redding a few short months before the start of World War II, this club has been a delight to so many who have wanted to learn how to have their voices heard and their stories shared, whether for work purposes or for special social occasions honoring others.
