Horsetown-Clear Creek Preserve HCCP seeks to promote nature-related education and provides free interpretative activities while preserving our local Clear Creek habitat.

Located in Redding, California. Horsetown-Clear Creek Preserve is located in Shasta County, California, just west of Redding. The Preserve is in the middle of BLM's Clear Creek Greenway on Clear Creek Road, seven miles west of highway 273 and just west of the Clear Creek Bridge.

FALL 2026 EVENTS AT
HORSETOWN-CLEAR CREEK PRESERVE
Unless otherwise noted, meet at the HCCP parking area on Clear Creek Road, approximately 7 miles west of Highway 273, west of the Clear Creek Korean Veterans Bridge. Children are welcome • All events are free • Donations appreciated

SEPTEMBER 5 • SATURDAY • 10 AM–2 PM — BIODIVERSITY DAY
Whistlestop Park, Downtown Redding
Join Western Shasta RCD, Horsetown, and others as we celebrate California Biodiversity Week, established by the California Natural Resources Agency to recognize the state's extraordinary biodiversity. Enjoy crafts, activities, presentations, and informational booths. Make a bird or bee house, contribute observations to iNaturalist, try your hand at becoming a pollinator, and learn ways you can help protect California's amazing living things.

SEPTEMBER 19 • SATURDAY • 10 AM — WILDLIFE APPRECIATION WITH SHASTA
WILDLIFE RESCUE
Join us at the Preserve's outdoor amphitheater as we welcome Shasta Wildlife Rescue. Learn about local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, hear stories about animals they've encountered,
and meet ambassador animals. Questions are encouraged. Afterward, join Horsetown board members for an optional one-mile walk along the creek trail to learn about vultures and the Preserve.

SEPTEMBER 26 • SATURDAY • 9 AM — NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY
The Bureau of Land Management, Horsetown, Western Shasta RCD, and other local nonprofits
are sponsoring a volunteer workday benefiting the Lower Clear Creek Greenway. Volunteers will pick up trash, remove graffiti and invasive weeds, and repair trails and damaged areas.
Wear: closed-toed shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and gloves. Volunteers receive a T-shirt and one-day National Parks pass.
BBQ at noon. Meet at the Horsetown parking area by 9AM. Information: BLM, 530-224-2100.

OCTOBER 17 • SATURDAY • 10 AM–2 PM — WILDLIFE TRACKING WITH EMILY CULHANE
Join local wildlife biologist and certified tracker Emily Culhane, with the Sacramento-Shasta Chapter of The Wildlife Society, for wildlife tracking and an introduction to Tracker Certification North America (TCNA). Learn about local wildlife tracks and signs—with a 100% chance of being distracted by birds and botany! Bring binoculars, waterproof shoes, layers, water, snacks, and your sense of adventure. Expect moderate to strenuous hiking, bending, and
kneeling. Severe weather cancels.

OCTOBER 17 • SATURDAY • 9 AM–4 PM —
RETURN OF THE SALMON FESTIVAL
Coleman National Fish Hatchery • 4411 Coleman Fish Hatchery Road, Anderson Join the Coleman National Fish Hatchery for a fun and educational day celebrating the return of the salmon. Visit the Coleman National Fish Hatchery website for additional information.

OCTOBER 24 • SATURDAY • 10 AM–12 PM —
SEARCH FOR THE SPAWNING SALMON
Join Department of Fish & Wildlife biologist Matt Johnson for a walk along Clear Creek to observe spawning salmon. Learn about restoration projects designed to help salmon in Clear Creek and get up-to-date information about local salmon runs. Bring: polarized sunglasses and comfortable walking shoes. Meet: Gold Dredge Trailhead on Clear Creek Road, approximately 2 miles west of Highway 273, just west of Sunrise Excavating.

OCTOBER 24 • SATURDAY — FAMILIES IN THE FOREST
Join Shasta Environmental Alliance for an event designed for families with young children.
Registration is required. Visit the SEA page or website for registration information.

NOVEMBER 1 • SUNDAY • 1–3 PM — ACORNS: A NATIVE AMERICAN STAPLE
Native Wintu herbalist Ted Dawson will discuss acorns, from harvesting through preparation as food. Try grinding acorns with a mortar and pestle and sample acorn dishes. Bring the family!

NOVEMBER 7 • SATURDAY • 10–11 AM — AMERICA'S POET: CARL SANDBURG
Join orator Max Walter at Horsetown's outdoor amphitheater for a tribute to writer and poet Carl Sandburg. Hear Sandburg's American story and poetry, selections from his children's
Rootabaga Stories, and folk songs from The American Songbag.

NOVEMBER 15 • SUNDAY • 10 AM–12 PM — GEOGRAPHY AND MORE
Join Dan Scollon, retired Shasta College instructor of Geology, GIS, and Mapping, for a walk and talk placing Horsetown in the wider context of space and time. Explore the area's geology, hydrology, vegetation, and human geography, from pre-European history to the present, and learn how HCCP fits into the larger Klamath Mountains region.
