Division Midway Alliance This, plus other funds, will give each district $1.2 million to spend over the next eight to ten years.

The Division Midway Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing the commercial corridor and improving livability for those living and working on and around SE Division between 117th and 148th Avenues. As with other urban renewal districts, property taxes generated in the district, over and above the level already being collected when they formed, are placed in a special tax increment account for use in the district. The funds can be used for business improvements, for projects and events to promote the area, and perhaps for one or two small physical public improvements.

On Saturday, six youth came together with a local mural artist to continue creating a community mural through our “Creative Placemaking: Inspiring Youth for Road Safety through Art” program.

Through painting and sketching, youth explored important messages about road safety, transportation, and community well-being. What was planned as a two-hour activity turned into even more time together, as several youth were excited to stay longer and keep creating!

This project gave youth a space to express their creativity, build leadership and teamwork skills, and use art to encourage safer roads for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and everyone in our community. 🖼️ 🎨

Last Saturday, we brought the community together for an afternoon of fun at our Play Street event!

We also enjoyed a community bike ride, getting out on the streets together and promoting active transportation. 🚴‍♀️

We’re grateful for the partnerships that helped make this event possible. A big thank you to PBOT for providing the play street trailer, Community Cycling Center for providing bikes, and Nikki from BikeLoud PDX for leading the bike ride.

Building Safer East Portland!

As the days get shorter, visibility becomes an important part of pedestrian safety, especially for people walking, biking, and taking transit after dark.

For Light Up the Night, our community came together for a safety walk led by Lale from PBOT, who shared information about Vision Zero and pedestrian safety.

After the walk, our youth headed to the 122nd Avenue intersection to distribute safety lights and help community members stay visible walking, biking, and taking transit.

Division Midway Alliance is excited to launch the Youth Climate & Community Ambassadors Program (YCCAP)!

Youth ages 14–24 will have the opportunity to learn about climate change, build leadership and community engagement skills, gain hands-on experience, and earn a stipend while learning!

Join us on September 26 for an afternoon of fun at our Play Street & Plaza Activation at Dairy Queen!

As part of the event, we’ll have a community bike ride. Whether you’re joining us to ride, walk around, or simply enjoy the event, everyone is welcome!

TESYA 2.0 is recruiting!

Are you a young person ages 16–24 who wants to make a difference in your community?

Join TESYA 2.0 (Transportation Education & Safety Youth Ambassadors) — a two-year youth leadership program where you’ll learn about transportation safety, public transit, walking, biking, and community engagement, then share what you learn with your community.

🌟 What you’ll get:
• Transportation safety and leadership training
• Opportunities to lead workshops and community events
• Experience working with community partners
• A chance to create culturally and linguistically relevant transportation education
• A stipend for your participation

📅 Two-year commitment: October 2027 – October 2029
⏰ Approximately 10 hours per month

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Transit Matters Conference! 

It was an incredible day of learning, connection, and meaningful conversations about how transit goes beyond getting from one place to another. Together, we explored how transportation connects to community safety, placemaking, economic vitality, and creating a stronger East Portland.
We are grateful to all of our speakers, panelists, facilitators, partners, sponsors, volunteers, youth, community members, and organizations who shared their experiences, ideas, and perspectives throughout the day.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed to these important conversations. We hope the connections and ideas shared at Transit Matters continue beyond the conference as we work together toward a safer, more connected, and thriving East Portland.
