🌡️ HEAT WAVE RESPONSE ALERT 🌡️

The Somali Oregon Service Center is responding to the extreme heat by making water and cooling supplies available to community members in need.

If you or someone you know is struggling to stay cool during this heat wave, please stop by and pick up free bottled water and cooling supplies while supplies last.

We encourage everyone to:
✅ Drink plenty of water
✅ Stay indoors during peak heat hours
✅ Check on older adults, children, and neighbors
✅ Never leave children or pets in vehicles

Our community’s health and safety are our priority. Together, we can help keep everyone safe during this extreme heat event.

With extreme temperatures expected, the Somali Oregon Service Center (SOSCENTER) is opening its doors as a Cooling Station to help keep our community safe and comfortable.

❄️ Need a place to cool down?
Come visit our air-conditioned cooling center and take a break from the heat.

🌸 Women Sewing Program – Join Us! 🧵✨

Are you interested in learning sewing skills, starting a small business, or connecting with other women in the community? Join the SOS Center Women’s Sewing Program!

💜 Sew. Learn. Empower.

This hands-on program is open to women of all skill levels. Participants will learn practical sewing techniques, build confidence, and become part of a supportive community.

📅 Training Days: Saturday & Sunday
⏰ Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
📍 Location: New Columbia Community Room, North Portland
🧵 All sewing materials will be provided at no cost.

📢 EMERGENCY RENT ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE NOW! 📢

For Oregon families and individuals facing housing challenges. An additional $5 million has been added to the Emergency Rent Assistance Program to help households stay safely housed.

✅ Assistance may be available for:

* Past-due rent
* Utility bills
* Other housing-related costs

✅ Eligibility includes:

* Households with income at or below 65% of Area Median Income (AMI)
* Renters experiencing financial hardship
* No citizenship requirement

🌿🤝 The Somali Oregon Service Center is proud to announce the successful launch of our Peace & Nutrition Training Program for 20 Afghan immigrant and refugee participants in Portland, Oregon.

This six-week program, made possible through our partnership with CareOregon, focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles, nutrition education, mental well-being, community connection, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The first session brought together participants eager to learn, share experiences, and build stronger connections within their new community. Through interactive discussions and practical nutrition education, participants gained valuable knowledge to support the health and well-being of themselves and their families.

We are honored to support Afghan immigrant and refugee families as they continue their journey toward stability, health, and community integration.

A special thank you to CareOregon, our staff, volunteers, and participants for making this program possible.
