Why we do what we do

07/30/2026

This summer, thanks to our incredible supporters, Operation Nightwatch completed critical building improvements that will serve our guests for years to come. ❤️

But we've also experienced one of the biggest challenges in our 45-year history—a major loss of operating funding due to Multnomah County budget cuts.

Your support can help keep our doors open, meals served, and hope alive for Portland neighbors experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty.

Every gift makes a difference. Please consider donating today. Together, we can continue offering dignity, compassion, and community to those who need it most.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the resilience, contributions, and achievements of Black Americans.
As we reflect on our nation's history, we also recognize the ongoing work of building communities rooted in equity, dignity, and opportunity for all. We join in honoring freedom, justice, and the continued pursuit of a more inclusive future.

Operation Nightwatch volunteer Cindy Brown has written a new novel that highlights the massive social issue of houselessness and that will appeal to those who enjoy twisty mysteries combined with feel-good stories that deliver a strong social message. She has graciously donated some of her sales proceeds to our organization. Thank you, Cindy for your volunteer work and your financial support!

We’re in the midst of one of the most transformative years in our history, including long-needed capital improvements made possible by our recent capital campaign.

While this work is ongoing, we’d like to connect with our community by sharing construction progress, updates on the on-site Agape shelter, and our outlook for the next fiscal year amid a volatile fiscal and political climate.

Join us on Tuesday, May 12, from 6:00–7:30 PM at 1432 SW 13th Ave.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Please enter through the Angel Doors on SW 13th; for ADA access, proceed to the Angel Doors and a staff member or volunteer will assist you via the ramp entrance.
