Honor Flight Northwest Oregon Honor Flight Northwest Oregon is one of 128 regional “hubs” that honor American veterans with a trip to Washington DC memorials built in their honor.

Honor Flight of Portland Oregon (HFPO) is an authorized Honor Flight Network hub, serving the HFPO service area of Clatsop, Columbia, Washington, Multnomah, Hood River, Tillamook, Yamhill, Clackamas, Polk and Marion counties. We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation. In conjunction with the Bend Heroes Foundation, we are participating in the national Honor Flight Network program by taking WWII v

eterans to Washington, DC free of charge for a four day trip to visit their National WWII Memorial, White House, Capitol, and 8 other attractions there.

Born on January 15, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, Tyrone Snow Woods served twenty years in the United States Navy as a SEAL, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2010. During his distinguished military career, Woods completed multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and served as a paramedic, registered nurse, and SEAL instructor. Following his retirement from active duty, he continued serving his country as a private security contractor with the CIA's Global Response Staff (GRS).
On the night of September 11, 2012, armed militants launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Diplomatic Compound in Benghazi, Libya. Positioned at the nearby CIA Annex, Woods and his fellow GRS team members immediately responded to calls for assistance. Moving directly toward the heavily armed assault, Woods provided suppressive fire, evacuated diplomatic personnel back to the Annex, and organized a defensive perimeter to protect more than thirty Americans.
Throughout the night and into the early morning hours of September 12, 2012, Woods defended the rooftop position against repeated mortar and automatic weapons attacks. During a heavy mortar barrage aimed at the building, forty-one-year-old Woods was killed alongside fellow GRS officer Glen Doherty. For his exceptional heroism, leadership, and sacrifice under relentless enemy fire, Tyrone Woods was posthumously awarded the CIA's Award for Valor.
