National Day of the Cowboy - Preserve the Heritage

National Day of the Cowboy - Preserve the Heritage Always the 4th Saturday in July, the 22nd Annual National Day of the Cowboy is Saturday July 25, 2026

The National Day of the Cowboy organization and its volunteers have been working for over 19 years to secure permanent status for the fourth Saturday in July as the National Day of the Cowboy, in all fifty states, as well as in other countries. As of May 31, 2019 fifteen states have passed the National Day of the Cowboy bill permanently into law; WY, CA, NM, AZ, OK, OR, MS, KS, VA, TX, ID, IN, AR

, ND, and MT. Our bill awards permanent status to the 4th Saturday in July as a day to celebrate cowboy culture and pioneer heritage.

We shut down the National Day of the Cowboy website this morning. Service at Godaddy had become non-existent, while costs for hosting, updates, security certificates, and email boxes kept rising to a ridiculous and unsustainable level. We were being billed over $2,000 a year for what seemed like very little in return.

Just read about an event happening at The Lubbock Heritage Center in Lubbock, Texas, later in April. Sorry but for some reason, the link will not post.

Kissimmee, Florida's annual National Day of the Cowboy celebration is coming your way!

BY THE TIME THE MORNING FOG LIFTS FROM THE PRAIRIES SOUTH OF ORLANDO, it reveals a Florida few visitors ever imagine. Here, the land stretches wide and flat, broken by saw palmetto, live oaks, and slow-moving water. Horses shift their weight. Leather creaks. Somewhere, the sharp crack of a whip echo...

I've just discovered we are sold out of the 2011 Jo Mora ESTATE STAMPED National Day of the Cowboy Sweetheart of the Rodeo Hatch Show Print posters. We do still have a very few of the 2011 posters which do NOT have the Mora Estate Stamp. They're currently listed on eBay along with a number of our other posters and pins. Also, there are still a few of the Sweetheart posters which were signed by Chris Hillman of The Byrds.

For all of you who love Western Music and miss Don Edwards. This is a sweet video PBS filmed about Western Jubilee Recording Company in Colorado Springs, CO. Owner and founder, the late Scott O'Malley, was one of our Cowboy Keeper Award Recipients, along with the late, Kathleen Collins, also of Western Jubilee and also a Cowboy Keeper Award Recipient.

I can see from all the many articles and posts that thousands of people enjoyed celebrating cowboy culture and pioneer heritage on the 21st National Day of the Cowboy today. A big thank you to NDOC board members Darrell Wyatt in Virginia, and Jerry Betley in Indiana, for helping me to keep the organization going for yet another year! We're grateful to those of you who continue to plan celebrations, as well as to those of you who make those events a success by attending and bringing new friends each year. If you made a donation or bought a flag from us, or a poster, or bumper sticker or a hat, you helped us pay the bills and keep our campfire lit. Happy 21st Annual National Day of the Cowboy!
