Join us in celebrating 25 years of food justice work in Portland at the Brentwood Community Garden on July 25th from 5pm-7pm!

Enjoy local snacks, botanical sips, live music, fabulous raffle items, and an evening of fun amidst the blooms. All proceeds benefit our Farm, Garden, and Youth Programs. Join us in supporting local food security and community connection and keep our programs strong and flourishing for the next 25 years!

Join us Thursday, May 28th, from 5:30-7:30pm at our
Boyd St. Urban Farm (58 Boyd St.) for an evening of learning about urban soils and strategies for safely growing food in Portland! There will be hands-on activities to demonstrate soil health best practices and resources for testing soils in your farm or garden.

This event will feature the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Cultivating Community, Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District, City of Portland Sustainability Office, Fresh Food Gardens, and American Farmland Trust - New England.

This free event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Interpretation services are available upon request. For more information, email [email protected].

Food for thought: Republican lawmakers are proposing $200 million in cuts to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

This would leave at least 18,000 Maine parents and young children less able to afford the nutrients they need amidst a national affordability crisis.

Summer is upon us and we are always looking for volunteers out in the gardens!

If you're itching to get your hands dirty, drop in on one of our volunteer days in the community gardens. The first one will be happening next week on May 13th from 5pm-7pm at the North St. Community Garden.

Join us, meet new friends and neighbors, and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We will have gloves, tools, and light snacks to go around!

Our Wake up the Boyd Street Urban Garden event is right around the corner and you won't want to miss it! Join us next Tuesday, May 5th, from 4PM-6PM out in the garden🌱🍓🥬

Help our Youth Inters prepare the garden for the growing season by getting your hands dirty! Projects will include mulching, compost placement, litter pickup, and so much more.

The Boyd Street Urban Youth Garden is the only open harvest or free-to-pick from space in Portland. This garden space is a vital resource to our Portland neighbors and community.

We will have pizza, treats, and other snacks, as well as garden gloves and tools for everyone who joins.

Our Youth Leadership Intensive (YLI) students have been having a blast over the last few weeks!

Over April break, the students spent time out in the community, enjoying the outdoors, and exploring partner programs. Our YLI students visited our friends at Carlisle Academy where they practiced equine groundwork and group challenges as well as our friends at Chewonki where they got to feed the farm animals, stack wood, and help plant the first potatoes and onions of the season. The students wrapped up the week at our Boyd Street Urban Garden, where Roberto Rodriguez from Fresh Food Gardens showed them how to build garden beds and get their hands dirty!

We love getting to experience these hands on opportunity with the high school interns and helping them learn leadership strategies and build new skills 💚🧅🪚

WOW! What a turn out!

We are still in awe of all of the friends, partners, neighbors, and volunteers who showed up on Saturday to help us rebuild the Casco Bay Community Garden. We had a gorgeous clear and sunny day and over 50 people measuring, cutting, lugging lumber, and assembling beds. We are so grateful and very excited to welcome gardeners back into this new revived and fresh growing space!

A special shout out to the students from Seguinland Institute that joined us, and a huge thanks to the Portland Maine Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department as well as Fresh Food Gardens for making this project possible. We are so thankful for all of our partners and supporters everyday.

Save the Date!

We are celebrating 25 years of Cultivating Community and working for food justice! Save the date for the Snap Pea Soirée - a Midsummer Garden Party Fundraiser on July 25th. Tickets will be on sale soon.

Enjoy farm fresh snacks, botanical sips, live music from Desert Blues, fabulous raffle items, and an evening of fun with friends. All Proceeds will benefit our Farm, Garden, and Youth Programs and will help keep them strong for another 25 years.

Come and help us rebuild one of Portland's most beloved community gardens…with an ocean view! The Casco Bay Community Garden Rebuild is coming up this Saturday.

At this event we will be starting the work of converting an in-ground community garden to a raised bed community garden. We will measure, cut, and construct raised beds – and learn a bit along the way about raised bed gardening. We'll start with a workshop from 10 -11, then get to work constructing from 11 – 2. Lunch will be provided as well as all tools, gloves, and water. Just bring yourself!
