Summer is in full swing and so are the Community Gardens! We are always looking for extra support and volunteers to help us make sure these spaces continue to stay maintained and beautiful for everyone.

If you're itching to get your hands dirty, drop in on one of our volunteer days in the community gardens. We have two volunteer days coming up this week! Join us on June 24th, from 5pm-7pm at the Common Share & Casco Bay Community Garden or on June 27th, from 9am-11am at Peaks Island Community Garden.

Meet new friends and neighbors, wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and come out and have fun in the garden! We will have gloves, tools, and light snacks to go around.

We hope to see you there 🌻🌱

If you can't make either of these ones, see the poster below for more upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Today, we celebrate and honor Juneteenth—uplifting the freedom, resilience, and deep roots of Black history, culture, and foodways.

As we celebrate the progress won, we also reflect on the systemic barriers that remain. We recognize the disparities and hardships that continue to burden our friends, neighbors, and families each day simply due to the color of their skin.

We commit to the ongoing fight for racial, economic, and food justice every day. We will always stand for the future our entire community deserves. 🖤

90-year-old Agatha forges a solitary existence on her family’s farm, growing vegetables and preserving heirloom seeds. Without a driver’s license, cell phone, running water, or even a functioning landline, Agatha’s daily rituals form a vivid counterpoint to modern life.

Food for thought: Republican lawmakers are proposing $200 million in cuts to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

This would leave at least 18,000 Maine parents and young children less able to afford the nutrients they need amidst a national affordability crisis.

If you feel strongly about Mainers having access to healthy and nutritious food, share this post and contact your federal representative to make your voice heard.
