Last week, our Program Manager, Barry, had the privilege of attending Governor Janet Mills 8th Annual Opioid Response Summit in Bangor, themed "Building Hope, Honoring Progress, Inspiring Change." π
The summit brought together more than 1,000 advocates, healthcare professionals, policymakers, law enforcement, and people with lived experience to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and continue the fight against substance use disorder.π€
There was encouraging news to celebrate: Maine has seen overdose deaths decline for the fourth consecutive year, with fatalities down nearly 9% in the first half of 2026 compared to last year. π While this progress is worth celebrating, the message was clearβwe must continue investing in prevention, treatment, recovery support, housing, workforce opportunities, and harm reduction. β€οΈ
As Governor Mills shared:
"The relationships you are building here and in communities across Maine... save lives."
We are grateful to stand alongside so many passionate individuals and organizations committed to creating hope, supporting recovery, and ensuring every person has the opportunity to heal and thrive. Together, we keep moving forward. π
