The March 26 edition of UN Heritage Kitchen featured: Patok by Rach (based in Inwood, NY)

Rach arrived from the Philippines 9 years ago with the desire to work and eventually run her own fine dining restaurant. She graduated from culinary school in March 2020 only to find the industry upside down. Refusing to be defeated, she began catering which led her to create Patok by Rach.

Thank you Rach for sharing Filipino cuisine to the UN!

Dear PCS members,

First, I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year!

2024 has been a great year for UNSRC-Philippine Cultural Society. True to our commitment to the Three Cs: Camaraderie, Community, and Culture, we started our term in March by immediately planning our first get-together so we can finally meet in person again.

On 17 April we had our lunch picnic by the Cherry Blossoms which was attended by many of us. To celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence Day, we had lechon and rice for our Lunch Fiesta on 12 June. On 24 October, we celebrated Filipino American History Month with a special prix fixe dinner prepared by Chef Aris Tuason exclusively for UNSRC-PCS in his restaurant 87 Ludlow. To celebrate World Children’s Day on 20 November, we collected toys which we shipped in balikbayan boxes to children’s institutions in the Philippines. To celebrate Filipino Christmas, we joined other Filipino communities in New York by being one of the sponsors and by participating on the last day of the Simbang Gabi sa Konsulado held on 9 December. Lastly, we partnered with the Philippine Mission to the UN in putting together a special concert by the Loboc Children’s Choir at the Sputnik Lobby of the UN Conference Building on 20 December. This event was very well attended and the choir literally put the audience to tears. All these activities plus our regular “Anong Balita” email broadcasts, our birthday card greetings, and regularly updating of the UNSRC social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, iSeek, Microsoft Engage, WhatsApp), what a year! I cannot thank enough my fellow officers—Monica, Alvin, Arra, Ethel, Rose, Monina, Celeste, Lina—for their hard work and support in the past year. And to you, UNSRC-PCS members, maraming salamat sa pagsama sa pagdiwang ng ating kulturang Filipino bagamat malayo tayo sa Pilipinas. We did not completely leave the Philippines because we brought a part of the Philippines in us.

This year is a bigger year for UNSRC-PCS as we celebrate our 30th anniversary! To kick off the celebration, I would like to remind and invite you once again to our post-holiday Karaoke bonding Sing Loud and Proud (see poster attached) on Thursday, 16 January at Duet 48. Bring your friends and colleagues and we’ll sing the night away! Please confirm your attendance by sending payment to Rose and Monica by Tuesday, 14 January.

Let us all make 2025 another year of UNSRC-PCS! We hope to see more of you this year.

-Florian, UNSRC PCS President
