On 2 August we mark European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma. We will never forget the lives destroyed during the Holocaust, the historical distortion and denial that followed, and the need to counter ongoing discrimination and prejudice against Roma communities.

Watch the discussion “Breaking the Cycle of Hate: The Rights and Voices of Roma in Europe”, organized by the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Permanent Mission of Greece and civil society. Speakers reflect on the historical and ongoing prejudice against Roma communities, and highlight the importance of amplifying Roma voices and exploring practical ways to counter hate speech and discrimination.

2 August is European Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma. On this day and every day, we honour the memory of the Sinti and Roma victims of the Holocaust.

Listen to the interview with Roma youth advocate, Ms. Nataliia Tomenko, Deputy Director of the Youth Agency for the Advocacy of Roma Culture (ARCA) in Ukraine, as she reflects on her family’s experience during the Holocaust, and how young people can turn remembrance into action: https://tinyurl.com/4rcrbshk

On 27 January, Nataliia presented the video testimony of her grandmother and Holocaust survivor, Ms. Halyna Tomenko during the United Nations observance of the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in New York.
