Why is it so important for trans and gender diverse persons to be in spaces such as the Women Deliver conference?
The Women Deliver Conference is one of the world's largest global conferences on and the health, rights, and well-being of , bringing together advocates, policymakers, donors, civil society organizations, and world leaders to drive action on feminist issues.
On 29 April 2026, Best Chitsanupong, Human Rights Officer, represented GATE as a panelist in a session convened by the Robert Carr civil society Networks Fund aimed at discussing the power and necessity of core, long-term, and flexible funding for intersectional movements working at the intersection of and human rights.
GATE shared how core, flexible, and multi-year funding has been transformative in sustaining trans-led HIV and human rights work through the THRIVE Consortium and called on donors to shift toward funding movements and ecosystems rather than isolated short-term activities.
Donors need to trust trans-led organizations as strategists and experts in their own communities.
On 30 April, we also attended an informal exchange between trans and gender diverse activists and partners across regions, co-hosted by ILGA World and Amnesty International on the sidelines of Women Deliver 2026.
The conversation focused on identifying urgent priorities across different contexts, sharing strategies to respond to escalating attacks on trans and gender diverse communities.
During our stay in Melbourne, Australia, we were excited to connect with leaders of GATE Member organizations, including Saro Imran, Founder & CEO of PINK Center and Liberty Matthyse, Executive Director of Gender DynamiX — reaffirming GATE's ongoing commitment to centering the trans voices and leadership.
