To celebrate AAPI month, today we are honoring the work of author Veera Hiranandani, who wrote two books that were recognized by the Jane Addams Peace Association. The first one is "The Night Diary" (2019 Honor) which tells the story of a half-Muslim, half-Hindu young girl named Nisha who is living through the separation of Pakistan and India. She and her family have to relocate to India after Pakistan becomes too dangerous to live in. The second book, "Amil and the After" (2025 Finalist), continues Nisha's story through the perspective of her twin brother Amil.
