We celebrate the extraordinary life of Jane Goodall (1934–2025), whose pioneering work transformed science and inspired a global movement for conservation and climate action. From her groundbreaking discoveries in Gombe to her tireless advocacy for forests, wildlife, and communities, she showed the world that protecting our planet is both a scientific necessity and a moral duty.

When she spoke at Climate Week, she reminded us that hope and action are inseparable — and that every one of us can make a difference. Her courage, compassion, and legacy will continue to guide our work.

The causes she championed and the pathway she created for all of us will surely give strength and inspiration to the next generation of environmental leaders.

Bermuda attended the second cohort of the Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Program back in 2024. As we do with all of the countries that matriculated through the Program, we encourage them to keep us informed of developments on their road to a 100% renewable-energy transition. Here is an update from Bermuda:

"Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (RA) is pleased to announce the commencement of the procurement process for Bermuda’s — and the Caribbean’s — first offshore wind development project.

Peace Boat’s 120th Global Voyage welcomed an inspiring group of young changemakers on board including two Global Ambassadors, Jody and Kerese!

As part of the Youth for the SDGs Program for the United Nations Ocean Decade, this international team of youth leaders has joined a capacity-building journey through the Caribbean and Latin America — focused on ocean protection, climate action, and sustainability.

We are proud to support these emerging leaders as they build skills, networks, and experience to become the next generation of ocean, climate, and sustainability champions.

"Suriname’s energy journey is a reminder that while an energy transition is technical, it is also deeply human. With the right partnerships and vision, Suriname can serve as a model!"

Approximately 48% of this South American country's electricity was generated from hydropower, with the remainder supplied by heavy fuel oil-based power plants. This dichotomy highlights both opportunity and urgency.

Remembering a Pacific Pioneer
The Honorable Arnold Indalecio Palacios, Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), passed away this week (July 23, 2025). Surrounded by loved ones, he was 69 years old.

Blue Planet Alliance had the distinct honor of working with this visionary climate leader and his constituents. CNMI was one of the eight islands to take part in our inaugural Fellowship Program cohort in the fall of 2023, and we visited CNMI the following year, conducting a renewable workshop for local stakeholders. During that visit, Gov. Palacios signed a Blue Planet Climate Agreement, pledging his island to a transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045.

The Youth Environment Network (CYEN) is a nonprofit-network organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of Caribbean young people by facilitating their personal development and full involvement in all matters pertaining to the environment and sustainable development.

CYEN's Joanne Husbands, the National Coordinator in St. Lucia, attended BPA's most recent Fellowship Program in May in Hawaii.

BPA Partner Spotlight
H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is a community-minded two-year college preparing students for continued study and the world of work. Located in the British Virgin Islands, the College is primarily Government-sponsored and comprehensive, with the main and south campuses in Paraquita Bay on the larger island of Tortola and a smaller centre on Virgin Gorda.

The BVI attended our most recent (fourth) Fellowship Program in Hawaii this past May, and we are working with the British Caribbean-island territory to help them transition to 100% renewable energy.

Palau and Patagonia: Connected by Water
"As a native of Palau, a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), my world has always revolved around the ocean. The rising tides, shifting weather patterns, and ecosystem balance between people and nature are more than talking points to me — they make up our very lives. But when I got the chance to go to Patagonia as part of a collaboration with Blue Planet Alliance to join Peace Boat’s Youth for SDGs program focused on the United Nations Ocean Decade, I knew this would be an eye-opening journey that linked my island home to a corner of the world that is profoundly impacted by climate change."

Next week, as part of the UN High-Level Political Forum ( ), our partners at Peace Boat US will host an event that will showcase youth empowerment and leadership for ocean and climate action.

The objective of the event, called "Youth Leadership on Ocean and Climate Action Through Capacity Building," is to explore and showcase storytelling as a powerful capacity-building tool in addressing the climate crisis. Through engaging narratives and compelling examples, they aim to highlight both the profound impacts of climate change on various communities and ecosystems, as well as innovative and effective solutions being implemented around the world.

The interplay of science, policy, and storytelling is crucial in shaping the climate movement. While data and policy frameworks lay the groundwork for understanding and addressing the climate crisis, it is storytelling that has the power to resonate deeply with individuals, inspiring action and fostering a collective sense of responsibility.
