Peace Boat US works to build a culture of peace around the world by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism and cooperation. We achieve this through programs in which people from the US and around the world participate in voyages onboard the Peace Boat, our Japan-based partner organization and one of the most unique and creative peace-building initiatives

in the world. Programs combine learning, activism, advocacy, and travel, enabling participants to learn first-hand about global issues such as environmental degradation, gender equality, ocean conservation, sustainable development and other important issues. Participants experience grassroots peace-building efforts to find non-violent, creative, and constructive solutions, from local communities to global advocacy networks. Key components of Peace Boat US include our Experiential Learning Programs:

Peace Boat US programs give you access to global experts, travel opportunities, learning spaces and the experience of a lifetime. We work with academic institutions to create custom programs for groups of students, ranging from one week to a full voyage of approximately 100 days, which combine onboard learning with on-the-ground experience and action in the countries we visit. Participants meet local communities affected by global problems and support them in developing creative and constructive solutions at the grassroots level. We also extend a warm welcome to travelers of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in any combination of life-long learning, travel, adventure, activism and immersion in Peace Boat’s unique community onboard. Youth for the SDGs program:

The Youth for the SDGs program is a unique experiential learning and capacity-building program for young activists and scholars engaged in SDG-related initiatives from the US and around the world. Peace Boat US aims to promote and strengthen youth engagement with the UN SDGs campaign, a goal identified as critical to achieving the SDGs. The program is open to participants of any age and background, with a limited number of full and partial scholarships available through a merit and need-based application process for young people working in SDG-related areas in their home countries. Scholarships:

Achieving the SDGs requires mobilization of young people through advocacy, entrepreneurship, volunteering, research, education and other endeavors. Toward this end, Peace Boat US offers a limited number of full and partial scholarships based on a combined need and merit basis, covering transportation between their homes and ports of embarkation and disembarkation with Peace Boat, onboard accommodation and meals, and port programs. Scholarships are available to young activists and scholars, age 18-30, currently engaged in SDG-related initiatives. Click below to learn more::

We are honored to have Matthew Hunter from the United Nations Youth Office join us on stage at the inaugural Ocean Gala on June 10 as we celebrate the UN World Oceans Day theme to "Reimagine" our shared ocean.

Matthew is a partnerships and policy professional with over a decade of experience working across international institutions, governments, civil society and the private sector on global development and youth affairs. He currently serves as Partnerships Lead at the United Nations Youth Office, where he advises senior leadership on stakeholder engagement strategies and manages relationships with a wide range of external partners shaping the global youth agenda.

In his current role, Matthew drives efforts to advance the rights and agency of young people globally, helping translate intergovernmental commitments into operational partnerships with measurable impact. He works across a uniquely diverse set of external stakeholders — from youth-led organizations and civil society to governments, foundations, and the private sector — building the coalitions needed to drive collective action on shared priorities.

We look forward to welcoming him onboard along with many of our United Nations partners, delegates and civil society leaders for sustainable development.

We can't wait for the return of our guest artist Ladislas from France to join us in New York City for the inaugural Ocean Gala onboard Peace Boat's ship.

Last year at the UN Ocean Conference, we co-hosted the Gallery Exhibit entitled "Tidal Shifts" together with PangeaSeed and Music for the Sea. Ladislas will return as a guest artist to do a live painting at the United Nations Headquarters on June 8 in celebration of UN World Oceans Day and then he will be part of the Tidal Shifts art exhbiition onboard the Peace Boat on June 10.

As a French artist based in Barcelona, Ladislas' work encompasses painting (both traditional and digital), sculpture, and murals, reflecting his passion for art and his commitment to ecology. His practice seeks to merge these two worlds by using his creativity to "emotionally reconnect the audience with nature." Through his art, he develops a « visual imaginary » inspired by the diversity and richness of the natural world, which he calls « Ecosurrealism ».

Surrealism allows him to explore new narratives and future visions, alternate realities often offering a symbolic critique of our times.

His goal is to question the relationship between humans and nature and address the environmental challenges faced by modern societies.

The preservation of oceans and their biodiversity is a recurring theme in his work. Ladislas regularly collaborates with organizations, brands, and projects that promote this cause, reinforcing his artistic involvement in ocean conservation.

Ladislas had the opportunity to work on projects with organizations and institutes such as PangeaSeed Foundation (Hawaii), the Institute of Marine Science (Barcelona), Restore Coral (Mexico) and Save Our Seas foundation (Switzerland).

One of our favorite environmental advocates and artists is joining us as a judge for the Ocean Stewardship Awards onboard Peace Boat this June 10!

Introducing Benjamin Von Wong, an environmental artist who creates large-scale installations at global gatherings, transforming discarded materials into potent symbols of change.

With so much international experience, he has notable achievements include a Guinness World Record installation crafted from 168,000 plastic straws, a striking 2.5‑story Biodiversity Jenga tower showcased at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference, and a dramatic 4‑story Plastic Faucet that highlighted the urgency of plastic pollution during the signing of the Global Plastic Treaty Resolution signed at the United Nations Environment Program headquarters.

We have collaborated in previous years for our UN World Oceans Day celebrations and youth education programs to feature Ben's artwork. His work has also been featured at marquee events such as the World Economic Forum, COP, and Art Basel, and he has collaborated with prestigious brands, including Nike, Dell, and Starbucks. Von Wong meticulously documents every project, elevating his community collaborators and stakeholders while providing a collection of multimedia resources for press, non-profit, and government organizations.

His work has generated billions of views and continues to be used worldwide to support grassroots organizations, educational institutions, and community-led initiatives that champion environmental justice.

Looking forward to having Ben join us onboard for the Ocean Gala!

This weekend Andri Snaer Magnason is in New York City for a theatrical showing of his new film Time and Water. We met Andri many years ago when he was invited onboard Peace Boat as a guest speaker as we sailed towards Reykjavik, Iceland. His work for climate action through storytelling is really amazing and it was so great to see his next chapter come to life 🌍📘🎥🎞️

[ In her latest feature documentary, Time and Water, Oscar-nominated Sara Dosa once again tackles vast, elemental forces. Her Fire of Love (2022) was about volcanoes, love and devotion. This time she is embracing all matters temporal within the context of diminishing glacier activity on Iceland.

“I think for me, both as a person and a filmmaker, I’m endlessly inspired by the power of nature, and how humans can co-create story and meaning with nature,” Dosa tells Business Doc Europe. “Also, as a filmmaker, we’re at this critical juncture in our planetary history, where we’re seeing the destruction of the Earth all around us, and people’s lives as well. And so, I think that whenever there’s stories that can showcase the life force – the sentience of nature, because I really believe these forces possess their own intelligence and own way of living – they also speak to me almost on a spiritual level.”

“I also think that there’s something so wonderfully powerful about the cinematic form to illustrate this life force, this power of nature, whether it’s volcanoes or glaciers,” she adds.
In the film, renowned Icelandic sci-fi writer and poet Andri Snær Magnason is determined to create a time capsule to preserve that which is disappearing drop by drop and moment by moment. As he says in the film, “I became the first to say goodbye to something we never thought we could lose,” referring to the island’s Okjökull glacier which is now gone, a result of global warming.

The overriding fear is that, very soon, all the glaciers will be gone – “millions of years diminishing in a single human lifetime,” Magnason warns. ]
