Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad

Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad The Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad provides 9-1-1 Emergency Services to the town of Leesburg,

In 1952, 12 community members started the first rescue squad in Loudoun County. With only a donated Ford Ranch Wagon and basic first aid training, these volunteers responded to auto accidents and other requests for medical assistance. Since then, the technologies, training, and challenges of our service have changed greatly. What has not changed, however, is our members’ absolute commitment to the

people we serve and our dedication to a simple motto – “When you need us… We are there.”

Today the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad has about 50 operational members, a dozen apparatus of various types, and a multi-million dollar facility on Catoctin Circle in Leesburg, Virginia. Working alongside our career colleagues from the Loudoun County Department of Fire and Rescue, our volunteer members contribute tens of thousands of hours a year running calls, training, doing public service, fundraising, and all the other functions necessary to operate a modern day rescue squad. Every hour of every day, we are prepared to provide not only basic medical care and emergency transport, but also advanced life support professionals, water rescue, and a wide variety of technical rescue capabilities to the people of Leesburg and the surrounding area. Our Mission:
The Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad (LCVRS) is proud to serve Loudoun County with professional, award-winning delivery of emergency medical services. We are committed to provide timely, high quality, cost efficient service to all our citizens with our talented, professional staff. With the community's support, LCVRS will continue to offer innovative, technologically advanced solutions to meet and exceed the needs of our neighbors well into the new millennium.

☀️Beat the Heat Safety Guide
As the summer heat rolls into Loudoun County, LCVRS wants to make sure everyone stays safe while enjoying the sun!🌡️Our team responds to an increase in heat exhaustion and dehydration during these months. Keep your family safe with these three quick tips:
1️⃣ Hydrate First: Drink water before you feel thirsty. Avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol, which dehydrate you faster.
2️⃣ Spot the Signs: Muscle cramps, heavy sweating, and dizziness are early signs of heat exhaustion. Move to the AC and drink cool water immediately.
3️⃣ Check the Back Seat: Never leave children or pets in a parked car—not even for a minute with the windows cracked. If you see someone exhibiting confusion, a fast pulse, or fainting, they may be experiencing heat stroke. Call 911 immediately! 📞Stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and enjoy the summer! 💙🚑
Our crews like to stay cool with ice cream treat!!

When you think of a rescue squad, you probably think of sirens, trucks, and band-aids. But did you know that creativity is actually one of our most important tools? In emergency services, no two calls are ever exactly the same. Our EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters have to use creative problem-solving every single day to:
🧠 Think fast on our feet during unique rescue situations.
🛠️ Adapt our tools safely to fit challenging environments.
📋 Build innovative training scenarios to keep our skills sharp.
Creativity isn't just about painting or writing—it is about looking at a tough problem and finding a brand-new way to solve it! How are you getting creative today? Let us know in the comments! 👇

🚒 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 🚒Children aren't just "tiny adults." In pre-hospital emergency care, pediatric calls account for roughly \(10\%\) of all EMS runs, making them relatively rare but incredibly high-stakes. Because of this, our crew recently dedicated their time to mastering pediatric emergencies! 🩺👶During training, our EMTs and paramedics focused on:
🫁 Anatomical & Physiological Differences: Adjusting airway management techniques to fit developing bodies.
💊 Rapid Dose Calculations: Using specialized systems like the Handtevy method to ensure exact, lifesaving medication administration.
🧸 Family Centered Care: Learning techniques to comfort frightened children and communicate effectively with panicked parents. Why do we train so rigorously for these less frequent calls? Because preparation saves lives. National data shows that specialized pediatric readiness in pre-hospital care directly correlates to drastically improved survival rates for critically ill and injured children. We do the hard work in training so we are ready to deliver the absolute best care when your family needs us most. Stay safe out there! 🚑💙

18 years ago this event changed Loudoun County!

On this date in 2008, a significant fire occurred in a single-family home on Meadowood Court in Leesburg, Virginia. Over the course of the incident, seven County Fire and Rescue System personnel were injured, with four receiving serious burns. This incident deeply impacted our system and resulted in significant changes in how we operate in the County. It continues to serve as a reminder that our training can save lives, sometimes our own.

Today, we remember this incident and the lessons learned. You can learn more about the Meadowood Court Incident and the changes to our system on our website: https://www.loudoun.gov/5634/Significant-Incident-Reviews

🚒 SPOTTED IN THE BAY: Even when the calls slow down, our dedicated volunteers don’t stop! 🧼✨
Between emergency runs, our on-duty crew took advantage of the quiet moment to give our rigs a thorough, top-to-bottom wash and decontamination. People often see our ambulances out on the road, but they don't always see the hard work that happens behind the scenes. Keeping our vehicles clean isn’t just about looking sharp for the community—it’s about ensuring a sterile, safe, and medical-grade environment for the next neighbor who needs our help. A huge shoutout to our duty crews for going the extra mile to keep our fleet in pristine condition. Our volunteers take immense pride in protecting and serving this community, one clean truck at a time! 💪❤️
