All: We’ve got a happy hour planned for Saturday at Harpers Ferry Brewing at the far northern tip of Loudoun County. This brewery was opened last year by the folks who created Loudoun’s first farm brewery at Old 690. They’ve done a beautiful job creating a special space on the site of a former hunting lodge.

For the happy hour, we’re looking for something in the 1-4 p.m. timeframe. It may be worth staying later for to catch the show by Teddy Chipouras starting at 5:30.

With the weather looking good, it will be crowded up there. We’ll try to grab a couple of picnic tables along the fence overlooking the river.

When we put this on the schedule a few months ago, we discussed the possibility of including an Appalachian Trail hike into the mix. That would involve about 6-miles of fairly easily hiking starting at Rt. 9 and ending at the brewery. There are some rocky bits and sections will probably still be muddy. We would plan to start the hike around 9:30 a.m.

If anyone is interested in the hiking option, let us know so we can work on the logistics a bit more.

Harpers Ferry Brewing is located at 37412 Adventure Center Lane north of Hillsboro.

All,
During our last Helm Committee meeting, we filled the calendar with monthly club activities that will be spread throughout our service area.

These events kick off on Saturday with a happy hour on steroids.

Perhaps no town in the United States has a concentration of breweries as high as Leesburg. On Saturday, Jan. 26 we’ll take a tour to investigate this phenomenon first hand.

We’re scheduled to start at noontime and will visit five of them.

This will be a walking tour of the downtown area. If someone needs assistance, we may be able to arrange golf cart transportation for a fee; let me know ASAP about that.

My suggestion is for participants to park in the Loudoun County Government Center parking garage (entrance off Loudoun Street near Harrison Street intersection.)

We will gather there from noon to 12:15 and then walk to Loudoun County Brewing to start the tour. You can join us anywhere along the way, just call to see where we are.

It should be a very hoppy afternoon.
