The La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce is very excited to announce the launch of the Northern Grain Belt Ports Initiative. This Initiative, which has been several years in the making, is a collaboration among the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce, the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce, the Joint Board of Harbor Commissioners (Port of La Crosse), the City of Prairie du Chien, and the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission, with the goal of uniting the various public and private stakeholders along Wisconsin’s “West Coast” to establish regional and national leadership.

The West Coast — of Wisconsin — could get more attention soon from businesses around the Midwest and elsewhere. On Tuesday, the Chamber held an event with the business community and Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey to answer questions about what it's like to do business in La Crosse.

Sam Scinta, Chamber CEO, moderated a constructive conversation between the Mayor and representatives of the business community, with the goal of identifying actionable steps that can be taken to improve city/business relations, creating opportunities for future growth. These action items will be shared on our website in the next week, and the Chamber will work with the City to ensure progress.

This is the first event in a new series called "The La Crosse Region is Open for Business" that will be held quarterly. Stay tuned to find out what the Chamber has to offer next!

On Monday, the Chamber held The Forum for a higher education update with UW-La Crosse Chancellor James Beeby, Viterbo President Rick Trietley, and Western Technical College President Roger Stanford for an update about their respective schools.

Moderated by our Government Relations Director, Allyson Fergot, we discussed new initiatives, how they’re partnering with local businesses, and what they’re doing to keep students in the Coulee Region after they graduate. This forum provided a unique opportunity to hear from all three institutional leaders about the direction of their schools.
