Congratulations to the six Climate Fellows selected for 2026-2027! 🥳

After receiving multiple applications, six local young adults were accepted to participate in our first year of the program. 🌱 Over the next year, they'll work together on a new climate action project for our community that hits on one or more of the City of La Crosse, Wisconsin's Climate Action Plan points!

It's the first of its kind and we're excited to see what they do. 😎

These six individuals are either currently students or recent graduates from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College. 🧠

October kicks off with Week Without Driving! 🚗🚫

During this next week, challenge yourself and others to plan your routes without a car! Take the bus, walk, or bike to where you need to go. 🚲🚌🚶‍♀️Not only does this reduce carbon emissions, but it also brings attention to the challenges faced by non-drivers in our car-centric world and explores the benefits of ensuring we all have access to great public infrastructure.

How you can participate:
- Walk, bike, or ride the bus
- Get 1 free hour on a Drift Cycle bike with promo code "WWD26"
- Attend a film screening (10/4)
- Join upcoming group bus and bike rides
- Play "Week Without Driving" BINGO

😁 Say hello to Caroline, our new intern!

Caroline Zanon is a 3rd year student at UWL, majoring in Public Communication and Advocacy, and minoring in Environmental Studies and Outdoor Rec. 💚

"I've always been curious about our outdoor world, and enjoy spending time outside. My personal favorite activities are hiking, paddleboarding, and as of recent: birding!"🐦

She'll be helping us out with planning the Earth Fair, building community connections, and other projects.

This year, we received a wonderful group of public nominations highlighting people and organizations who are doing meaningful work to create a more sustainable, connected, and vibrant 7 Rivers Region. For the first time, we marked a change in our nomination to winner selection process. From all the public nominations received, a committee narrowed down those public nominations to 5 finalists for 2026.

Climate Fellows is a group of people ages 18-24 who we will support to turn their own climate ideas into action to develop a collaborative Climate Action project tied to the City of La Crosse’s Climate Action Plan.

Each participant will receive a $500 reward at the end. Thank you to Caplacrosse and the City of La Crosse, Wisconsin for their support.

Did you hear?!? We’re launching a brand-new program this fall, Climate Fellows, and we’re looking for 5 young adults ready to turn climate ideas into action together!

Thanks to partnership support from Caplacrosse and City of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Climate Fellows will take participants from ideation to implementation as they develop a collaborative Climate Action project tied to the City of La Crosse’s Climate Action Plan.

Along the way, Fellows will participate in monthly sessions with the Sustainability Institute, community leaders, local nonprofits, and other young adults. Together, they’ll build real-world project development skills, make meaningful connections, and create positive change right here in our community.

✨ And there’s more: Each successful Fellow will receive a $500 Fellowship Award!

Are you a young adult enrolled at a local college or university? Or are you 18–24 years old and have graduated high school or earned your GED?
