Kansas City joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2017. The legendary Count Basie Orchestra has been continuously touring for 91 years. Bebop and Kansas City Swing cannot be recognized as the Intangible Cultural Heritage they are because the US Congress never ratified the Convention in 2003. Being a Member City in UNESCO is an honor and privilege - it's also an economic benefit. In the past ten years Kansas City has attracted more than $700 million in music-centric real estate development. The economy of music is real and global. Know your value, celebrate the living heritage, support your local musicians, keep pushing for better conditions for all creatives. ✌️
