Today is HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day. đź’›

June 5 carries enormous weight: 44 years ago today, the CDC published its first report on what would become known as the AIDS epidemic — and the world changed forever.

Today we honor the estimated 300,000 long-term survivors in the U.S. — people who were living with HIV before effective treatment existed. They survived the unsurvivable. And they are still here.

We also honor Dandelions — those who acquired HIV at birth or in early childhood — lifetime survivors whose resilience defies description.

Long-term survivors aren’t just part of HIV history. They are the history.

💙 Over $170,000 Raised… and Counting! 💙

THANK YOU, KANSAS CITY!

On Saturday, April 25th, our community showed up in a massive way for the 38th Annual AIDS Walk Kansas City. Because of your incredible steps, energy, and generosity, we have officially raised over $170,000 so far this AIDS Walk season!

Every dollar raised stays right here in Greater Kansas City, directly supporting vital services, prevention, and care for our neighbors living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who walked, volunteered, sponsored, and donated. You are the heart of this mission, and you prove year after year that KC stands together.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Thank you for showing up, showing love, and walking with us toward a future with zero new HIV infections and zero stigma.

Today, May 19th, the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City recognizes National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

While statistical rates of HIV in the Asian and Pacific Islander communities are often lower than in other demographics, unique challenges persist. Cultural stigma, language barriers, and a lack of culturally responsive healthcare options mean that too many cases go undiagnosed, or individuals delay seeking the care they deserve.

At ASFKC, we believe health equity means ensuring every community has access to the tools they need to thrive.

How we can take action together today:

Break the Silence: Talk openly about sexual health to dismantle the stigma that keeps people from getting tested.

Expand Access: Advocate for multi-language, culturally competent care in our local health networks.

Know Your Status: Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to take charge of their health.

True community health leaves no one behind. Let’s stand together to ensure support, education, and prevention are accessible to all.

Today is National HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. While advanced treatments and daily preventions like PrEP have completely transformed how we fight the epidemic, a viable vaccine remains the ultimate key to ending HIV globally and locally.

On this day, the AIDS Service Foundation honors the brilliant scientists, medical professionals, and courageous community volunteers who are pushing the boundaries of medicine every single day to make this a reality.

Where the science stands in 2026:
Researchers are currently focusing on innovative early-stage trials, including combinations of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs). The progress is incredible, but the journey requires sustained awareness and funding.

What we can do right now in KC:
Until a vaccine is on the market, we utilize the powerful tools we do have. We can educate, we can lower the stigma, and we can make sure our community has full access to testing and care.

Let’s keep pushing forward together.
