Because behind every strike, spare, team, and ugly sweater is an opportunity to support the people Sherwood serves.

Jingle Bowl helps bring our community together around Sherwood Autism Center’s mission to empower children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities to maximize their potential in family and community life.

That mission comes to life every day through education, adult day services, supported employment, skill building, community experiences, and individualized support.

So yes, we’re coming together to bowl.

But we’re also coming together to make a difference.

What does it mean to create a workplace where neurodivergent employees can thrive?

It often starts with simple things: clear communication, thoughtful onboarding, flexibility, understanding individual strengths, and creating an environment where employees feel supported and valued.

During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're exploring how employers can put inclusion into action and create workplaces that recognize the value and talent people of all abilities bring to the team.

This work is especially meaningful at Sherwood Autism Center. Through vocational learning and Supported Employment, our students and clients develop skills, explore their strengths, and gain real-world experience. But successful employment also depends on community partners and employers who are willing to create opportunities and rethink what an inclusive workplace can look like.

Our latest blog shares practical ways organizations can become more neurodivergent-friendly and help more people find meaningful opportunities to contribute.

Sherwood Autism Center is excited to introduce the Jingle Bowl, our holiday fundraiser bringing together bowling, ugly sweaters, community, and a whole lot of fun for a great cause.

October at Sherwood Autism Center is all about Inclusion in Action.

Inclusion is more than an idea. It happens when people are given opportunities to participate, contribute, build relationships, learn new skills, and be part of their communities in ways that are meaningful to them.

Throughout October, we’ll share some of the many ways we see inclusion in action at Sherwood. We’ll recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the importance of meaningful employment opportunities, explore sensory awareness and accessibility, celebrate community participation, and share moments of connection from across our programs.

And, of course, there will be plenty of fun along the way as we look forward to our Fall Festival on Oct. 22!

Follow along this month as we celebrate the people, partnerships, and everyday experiences that help create communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong.

Inclusion isn’t only something we talk about at Sherwood.

It’s something we practice.

Sometimes Inclusion in Action looks like learning a new skill, participating in the community, finding meaningful work, or reaching an individual goal.

And sometimes it looks like an afternoon at a fall festival surrounded by people who are happy you’re there.

Sherwood’s Fall Festival is a chance for students, clients, families, staff, and friends to come together, have fun, and simply belong.

Some of the best moments at Sherwood happen when we simply get to be together.

Our Fall Festival is more than an afternoon of seasonal fun. It’s a chance for students, clients, families, staff, and friends to connect outside of the everyday routine, enjoy new experiences, and celebrate the community we’ve built together.

These shared moments matter.

They create opportunities for connection, belonging, friendship, and a lot of good memories along the way.
