🌎 Today is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
This year, the global focus is on something that matters greatly to all of us at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (KCH), and to the patients and families we serve: access to adequate pain relief and compassionate care.
No one should have to live with unnecessary pain, especially at the end of life. Yet, too many people around the world still face barriers to receiving the relief and comfort they need and deserve.
Over 20 million people die every year in unnecessary pain. Not because we lack the medicines. Not because we lack the knowledge. But because systems, policies, and stigma continue to stand between patients and the relief they deserve.
Hospice and palliative care help ease pain and other symptoms, support quality of life, and provide guidance and comfort for patients and the people who love them.
At KCH, we believe everyone deserves expert, compassionate care that honors their wishes, eases suffering and supports them through life’s most difficult and meaningful moments.
Today, we stand with National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation, Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance, and hospice and palliative care providers around the world in calling for better access to pain relief and care that puts people first.
Comfort matters. And no one should have to face serious illness or the end of life without the care they deserve.
