The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the United Nations Association represents members of the United Nations Association (www.unausa.org) in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Our chapter has established tremendous programs in support of the U.N. including the Mayor’s United Nations Day Dinner (a Kansas City tradition since 1972), the U.N. Peacekeepers Roundtable (in cooperation with the Harry S.

Peace Plaza), and the U.N.A. Roundtable on Food and Agriculture. Our energetic Young Professionals Group has promoted U.N. programs relating to children, refugees and peacekeeping. Home to Praia, the UNESCO City of Music in Cabo Verde since 2017 and FIFA World Cup hero Josimar Dias

Cesária Evora put Praia on the global map in 2001 with her album Cabo Verde. The island nation on the coast of West Africa is Small Island Developing State recoginzed by UNESCO as a high priority in terms of climate action and sustainable development.

Today, numerous music groups sustain Praia's sonorous legacy of sound. Home of the Kriol Jazz Festival KRIOLJAZZFESTIVAL and singer Ineidamoniz Gonçalves

Praia is set to host the African Capital of Culture in 2028. Praia is a City of Music supported by Ivan Santos Praia City Of Music UNESCO
