Share Your Expertise at the 2027 ACA Summit

The Angel Capital Association is inviting members, partners, and past attendees to propose breakout sessions for the 2027 ACA Summit, April 19–21 in Dallas. This year the Summit joins Innovation Week, co-located with InBIA’s ICBI41, with a new shared breakout track open for nominations.

Suggest topics, recommend speakers, and shape how sessions are delivered for an audience of 600 new and experienced angel investors and ecosystem builders. The committee favors fresh, interactive formats over traditional panels, such as debates, moderated audience discussions, and hands-on sessions. Proposals should be educational, non-promotional, and reflect diverse voices and perspectives.

Does founder age predict startup success? New data says it's complicated.

This month's Data Insights analyzed 2025 angel investment data across 66 groups and 1,000+ companies. A few findings challenge conventional wisdom:

Angel-backed CEOs skew older than the "young founder" stereotype — 72% of deals went to CEOs aged 40-69, while CEOs under 30 made up just 3%.

The exit sweet spot is narrower than the funding pool — CEOs aged 30-49 accounted for 75% of exits but only 50% of investment deals. CEOs 20-29, 60-69, and 70+ combined made up 27% of deals but 0% of reported exits.

Valuation premiums rise with age — median valuations for CEOs 50-59 were 2.5x higher than for CEOs under 30.

Founder-led exits produced huge average returns (14.5x MOIC) — driven largely by one outlier "home run" — while non-founder CEO exits had a higher median MOIC (3.3x vs 2.0x), suggesting professionalized leadership may deliver more consistent outcomes.

The takeaway: age likely functions as a proxy for domain expertise, prior leadership experience, and stage readiness — not a standalone predictor of success.

ACA Releases the 2026 Angel Funders Report — and the data tells a good story.

ACA's new 2026 Angel Funders Report shows angel investment rose 12% YoY — from $437M in 2024 to $491.3M in 2025 — as investors write bigger checks with more discipline and conviction.

The big themes shaping the market:
• Life sciences now drives nearly 47% of angel dollars (up from 31% in 2023)
• 2 in 3 angel groups made an AI investment this year
• Bigger checks, fewer deals, more selectivity
• Governance participation is declining as round sizes grow

"We are entering a healthier phase of the market," says ACA CEO Pat Gouhin. "The market is recovering through quality rather than quantity."
