⚽💃 KC Current made history in Kansas City with the very first stadium in the world for a professional women’s team.

But Kansas City’s story with women’s soccer began almost a century before CPKC Stadium. Local yearbooks discovered by the Kansas City Public Library show a girls school team from Kansas City’s Junior College in 1924. Photos show girls playing on the field at Gilham Park during gym class in 1948. And The Kansas City Star archives show that youth programs for girls and boys exploded in popularity during the 1980s and 1990s.

This was all part of building up new generations of girls soccer players and fans that built a foundation for the World Cup next month.
