Our art center features an impressive art gallery, an intimate and versatile black-box theatre, a classroom dedicated to arts education, and a broad array of great artistic events.

That's a wrap on Fahrenheit 451! On behalf of the cast and crew, thank you to everyone who came out to spend some time experiencing Ray Bradbury's cautionary tale of a dystopian world with us. There are only THREE chances left to catch Ray Bradbury’s timelessly relevant tale: FAHRENHEIT 451 on stage at the CCA! We know there's a lot to do in the Gorge on a fall weekend. And unlike the world of Fahrenheit 451, we WON’T try to control what media you consume... but we DO think you’ll really enjoy this play, adapted by Bradbury himself and passionately performed by fans of his work that also happen to be local volunteers.

This is a piece of art that speaks about the role art and literature plays our daily lives. And if you choose to join us, we would be honored to share that art with you this weekend.

Field Trip! We had the great honor of sharing our gallery exhibits Belonging Otherwise, and Columbia River in VI Sections with Hood River Valley High School art class last week!

Students got to experience these works by Epiphany Couch, Charlie-Anne Hopkins and Kristie Strasen in person thanks to the efforts of their teacher
Amirra Malak who made this opportunity possible for the students.

Belonging Otherwise and Columbia River in VI Sections will be on display at Columbia Center for the Arts until OCT 30. Only two weeks left to see these exhibits!

Glen Canyon Institute and Friends of the White Salmon River will present “What the River Knows,” a documentary about the re-emergence of Glen Canyon from beneath Lake Powell, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in the Columbia Center for the Arts Theater, 215 Cascade Ave., in downtown Hood River. A panel discussion and audience Q&A will follow the screening.

Directed by Will Buckley and Diego Riley of Good Intentions Paving Co. and produced in collaboration with Glen Canyon Institute, the 34-minute film documents a landscape returning after decades underwater. As water levels in Lake Powell drop, a canyon once called a lost Eden is coming back into view, revealing both the consequences of past decisions and a possible new path forward for the Colorado River.

The film examines this pivotal moment in which the urgent need to rethink water management aligns with an opportunity to restore a remarkable landscape and a flooded ancestral homeland.

Amid difficult conversations about climate change and the Colorado River crisis, “What the River Knows” offers a story of nature’s resilience.

In a future where firemen burn books instead of saving them, Guy Montag (Benjamin Sheppard) begins to question everything he’s been taught to believe... Join us at Columbia Center for the Arts this Friday through Sunday for Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's classic tale of censorship, control, resistance, and rebellion!

Or as director Lowry Browning puts it, “It’s a fascinating play that brings up a lot of emotions and thoughts about what our future is going to look like.”

Join Sarah Fox and Jason Hartmann in kicking off the 17th Season of Sense of Place tonight at Columbia Center for the Arts!

The Gorge is known for its recreation economy, but it’s also home to more than 100 technology companies, many specializing in unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs. With Jason Hartmann of the Gorge Technology Alliance, learn about the young, footloose engineers who came to the Gorge during the windsurfing boom of the 1980s and 90s, then used their expertise in lightweight materials to build a thriving tech economy hundreds of miles from Silicon Valley.

About the Speaker
Jason Hartmann is a project manager at the Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, where he leads industry engagement work throughout the Columbia River Gorge. Part of that role includes managing the Gorge Technology Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to building and supporting the region's technology businesses and community and to advancing STEM education in the Gorge.

A 24-year resident of the Gorge, Jason spent a decade in the local UAS industry, primarily in business development. He has also served his community as a White Salmon city councilor for eight years and as a Southwest Klickitat fire commissioner for two. He holds a degree in supply chain management from Michigan State University.

Maureen Wells has been oil painting since 12 years old, “I was hooked,” says Maureen, adding that she has painted off an on for the past Six Decades. Recently she has been exploring working with charcoal.

“It’s not as messy as you’d think!” Maureen jokes, adding that she is enjoying the new medium and “trying to get to be a little looser with my drawings. I’m very detail oriented.”

She has been a member of the Hood River Art Club for six years and has taken several classes, including some with the CCA! You may have seen her pastel pencil avocado piece in our last gallery show!

Maureen’s current landscape “Thundering Surf” reminds her of the Oregon coast as well as the California coasts where she grew up. It is currently on display in our lobby.
